forced induction help please
hi guys, i have another post looking for a twin turbo kit. i wanted to ask you guys what i should do on a stock ls1 motor to handle medium boost. ( 8psi?) im worried about compression ratio. should i get 6 liter heads or forged dish pistons? to you guys running crazy boost and times, any damage to tranny or stock rear pushing 550+ rwhp? any other worries i should consider? my goal is to bury the new cobra's with kenny bell blowers. this winter i dont want to sink more than $10k into it. (buying a house too) any help or hints is greatly appreciated from you guys. i read the guides on this but they do it once and say so, you guys drive the cars everyday so your info is important.
What do you have done so far?
You might just want to start with the basics to get a good foundation down first and then work on the buildup.
Head/Cam
Intake
Exhaust
If you're looking at putting some boost to it then you might want to look at rebuilding the bottom end. At 8psi you should be able to run it safely if you have some precautions ie. Colder plugs, intercooler, good tune, etc....
And of course your A4 might not hold up too long with making as much torque as turbo's do.....so plan on a rebuild or an upgrade for that.
And now if you plan on getting any traction and using slicks, you might kiss that rear goodbye.
There's a ton of things to do man....just have to start at the bottom and work your way up.
There's a lot that can be done for $10K and if you want to just slap on a turbo, you can do that for less....but you won't get everything out of it and you might incur some expenses down the road that could be avoided.

thanx ghostz
do you know if their is a replacement tranny for these circumstances or a heavy duty rebuild. i do plan on getting the bottom end, cam, heads and rear done, but want the power first. as far as cooler plugs, i dont understand that. more gap? what i have done so far is; k&n filter, ssra, lid, cut-out. single turbo is fine with me if they produce the power desired. supercharger is fine too, just hear about broken belts. thanx for the info ghostz
A supercharger is going to be easier and probably less expensive to install. Just doing a Vortech or ATI setup on a LS1 should be more than enough to stomp the new Cobras into the dirt (346 CID vs 281 CID). Hell, my LT1 with the S-trim will take out the new Cobras no problem, and I haven't done anything to the heads or cam other than 1.6 rockers and better springs. Oh yeah, the belt thing, superchargers use the same type of belt that you use to drive the other accessories so I don't see why belt life would be a big concern. If you pulley the thing for 15 PSI, then you might have some problems with belt slippage, but I don't think you'll have to worry for a while.
Good luck, let us know what you decide to do.
