Forced exhaustion...?

We all know about forced induction, but what about forced exhaustion?

Some FI applications run major psi. I wonder how a similar device attatched to exhaust would effect things? Not talking about a turbo. Maybe a system designed to work with a supercharged motor.

It might give you some useful information.

But just to be clear, are you talking about a belt driven vacuum pump for the exhaust? I have to say, i've never thought of that

link doesn't work.

i hadn't thought about how it would be driven....belt would be hard, but lots of possibilities.

Re: Forced exhaustion...?

On the intake stroke, the more air you cram in the cylinder, the better. Conversely, on the exhaust stroke, once the cylinder is empty, it can not become more empty. It only takes a decent exhaust to fully empty a cylinder, not a vacuum pump. If anything, you might suck air/fuel out the exhaust that could've made power.

Yeah that's a good point, the vacuum could only be induced after BDC, thereby more speedily ridding the cylinder of the exhaust gases and ideally creating a strong vacuum in the cylinder before the intake valve opened.

Heres the link again. http://www.superchevy.com/technical/...t/0505phr_exh/
