FMIC vs Meth vs Both???

So what are the positives and negatives to running these 3 options.

1. Just a Big FMIC, probably a 4" core and 3"inlet/outlets.

2. Just a Meth injection. Probably a 50/50 mix, either snow or alkycontrol.

3. A big FMIC and a Meth injection, having the meth start pumping when a certain boost level or a hot enough IAT is reached.

It just seems that just a meth kit would eventually get "not expensive", but more costly compared to a FMIC on a boosted street motor.

Both would be optimal, however if you can only afford one right now i would say an FMIC since it is always "working" to cool the air.

I ran just a Snow kit at first with a 50/50 mix. Seemed to do ok, although it would be warmer then ambient air temp, but still combating detonation. Then i added a FMIC (12x24x4 3"in/out) and kept the Snow kit and went to 100% meth. I've never seen my intake temps go over ambient temp even at max boost. The drawback is i did lose about 1 to 2lbs of boost with the FMIC, but from a safe perspective, i'm very comfortable with it. Seems like it will never pull timing no matter how much i add. I was up to 27deg at 12psi with a 150 shot of nitrous and it still didn't pull any timing through a full pass at the track 2 weeks ago. That was with an outside temp of about 85deg. I remember scanning it over the winter one night. Just under boost alone. Temp was about 35 deg out. At max boost, my intake temps were in the teens. I laughed. I drove around for 30 minutes, pulled into my garage and popped the hood. I put my hand on the intake manifold and all the pressure side tubing and it was freezing like the car sat outside in freezing temps all night. So, both are good options by themselves. FMIC probably better for a daily driver. Together there hard to beat.

I run both large Spearco (25x8x3) and Snow (60-40 mix). I too can put my hand on intake tube after a spirited drive. The IC does drop the pressure, but, with addition of hardpipe intake and pressure side tube, alot of flow losses can be turned into flow gains. I have also gone to Evans NPG coolant with no thermostat. Modified the WP. Cools much better for a FI application. (App... 97ss 383 D1 M6)

This kind of depends on your compression ratio. If you have a relatively high compression ratio (9.0 or above) then you will need both and will see big gains. The intercooler becomes very effective at high speeds. The meth is very effective for slow speed romps. I personally use both.

It will depend on the setup, and mostly what the beggining IAT's will be. If you plan on running a higher than 9:1 CR and moderate to high boost (more than 10#'s) you will probably want to do both the FMIC and meth injection.

Running an FMIC will usually cost you a few #'s of boost, but unless your blower/pulley combo is maxed out, you can make up for the loss in boost by changing to a more agressive pulley combo.

I think boost referenced meth injection will do more than the FMIC if you have to choose between both, however if you want to have a high boosted car that spits out 500+RWHP you will probably need both the FMIC and intercooler to get there safely without having to go to the costly way of using race gas.

I personally prefer the 50/50 water/meth mixture. I installed the meth injection 2 years ago and beat the snot out of it and have only used about 7 gallons so far of the meth/water mix. So as far as cost goes, I only have spent about $8 in meth in the last 2 years. Granted I have buddies that have meth injected their cars and some of them seem to use more than I do (even though they drive less), but either way it is a great way to save money on race gas and still stay safely away from detonation.
