FMIC for a 96Z28

I have a 96Z28. Looking to upgrade to a FMIC. What is the typical size intercooler that is used? I'm looking at a 12x24" core size but they have an option for 3" thickness or 4" thickness. Both ICs use a 3" inlet and outlet. Any recommendations on size? TIA.

All other things being equal, a bigger intercooler will put colder air at the intake. If it will fit, go thicker.

As far as what's typical, putting an FMIC on a blown LT1 Camaro might not be common enough to say?

(I have no firsthand experience supercharging F-bodies, but nobody else was answering so I figured I'd chime in. )

I am not sure on "typical" but I am using the 12" X 24" X 4" (core size) and it fits nicely. I would suggest that you also go with the 4" thick intercooler since it does not require any more effort to install than the 3". I am not sure how the end tanks are made on the I/C that you are considering, but choose end tanks that are narrow at the top and widens at the bottom (as oppose to rectangular shape end tanks). If they are narrow at the top, then the I/C should fit nicely between the bumper supports (Mine Does Anyway). Good Luck with it.

Most people will tell you to use the 4" intercooler. It fits pretty easily.

Yes, I have the 3" FMIC and it may end up being a restriction.

I had a problem building boost with the 3", motor wasnt getting boost and i was tracking the culprit for months. Read 0psi to redline. Switched out for a 4" and problem went away, 10psi. I'm assuming the 3" restricted too much. So based on that experience, I'd recommend the 4".

I think that's called a hole, not a restriction.

Pressure tested to 50 psi, no leaks... one of the first things I checked.
