Failed State Emissions with STS

What an experience today . Took the car in for emissions testing today and I kind of new it would not pass because I was throwing SES codes (number 2 and 7 have low compression). I have already bought a new fully forged 383 anyway and I just thought I would take it to see what happened. Anyway The guy had my car on a lift and pointed out that I had a exhaust leak (a dark mark where the pipes fited going back to the turbo near the back of the car). OK, then he says that a plate would be needed to cover the exposed opening on the turbo itself. Its the flanged opening).

I also had some after market HID lights on the car. Not only did he tell me about them he had taken them apart to show me that my after market housings for the lamps were not DOT leagle. In my mind, I went DAMN this guy thorough. So now I am kindly displaying my rejection sticker on the front of my windshield.

I don't think I am going back to the dealer when the new engine is installed. No telling what he will do next (may take the engine apart).

Yea, your right about going to the dealer; however, they passed the car last year with everything like it was. Next time I will go to mom and pops.

did that inspector work for DEA or ATF at anypoint?? it seems like he finds one thing wrong and goes out of his way to find other things.

Dont know about this guy working for the FED I could not understand his english. I went to this dealership because I thought we had a good relationship, but I guess thats not the case. Overall, I believe this will hurt their business in the long run. The only reason I deal with them is because they are the only Chevy dealorship in the neighborhood.

Doesn't really sound as though the STS kit is what caused you to fail your test, so why label your post like that?

Re: Failed State Emissions with STS

Excellent question. As I said in the first post, the inspector wanted a plate over the exposed open flange on the turbo. Second he also said that the area where the pipe fitted near the gas tank going to the turbo was leaking.

Re: Failed State Emissions with STS

what the hell does that open flange have to do with emissions!?!?!? isnt that just for the wastegate?

also, my brother in law said that he can legally fail you (at least in cali) for having illegal headlights. it has nothing to do with emissions.....law inforcement takes care of that kinda stuff.

Thats my point. Actually I have a waistgate, he saw carbon on the open flange and informed me that I failed the visual.
