F.A.S.T Sucks!

I found the reason why my head gasket popped. For some reason my FAST ECU decided to advance my timing 6 degrees. Also let me add there tech line sucks..Here is what I posted on turbobuick let me know if you think my problem would be something besides the ecu.

The first problem is with out the car running and the key on. Sometimes the fast will read 7500rpm and start sparking the motor before I even crank?

The second problem just occured and is probably the reason my head gasket popped. My timing numbers on my program say for example 20 degrees. Then I look at the bottom where it reads actual timing and it always 6 degrees higher. I changed all the number around that cell where its reading and it still read 6 degrees advance. I called FAST tech which really sucks. They say the same thing everytime something goes wrong with the ecu...ohh it got to be something in your harness..Then when I send it back it the ecu...Anyway I cant see what would cause this the only imputs to the fast are the distrubutor wires. Anyone have any ideas on these problems?

We've avoided fast for just those reasons, and more.

I don't know if it happens all the time or not, but check your trim timing stuff. If you want, I can help you look your file over too. I am currently finishing tuning a friends 89' TTA and getting ready to start my TT 400SBC. Both are using the FAST system.

The main thing that I have figured out about FAST is two thing .... 1) tech line is worthless ... just go to Turbobuick.com
2) in general, the box works, just sometimes, you just can't figure out why stuff is happening

How did you sync the distributor?

99% of the problems with engine management systems are with the user(harness).

If you think about it, everything is pretty cut and dry. 2 wires going into the fast from the distributor. As for the timing issue I cant see how any wiring could cause that?

The AEMs I've installed do exactly the same thing. They randomly advance or retard the timing up to 6 degrees. They've done this on 2 turbo Supras and a Fox-body with a Windsor. Of course AEM claims it's impossible for the computer to do this, but it sure as hell does. Powerhouse doesn't even sell or install them anymore because of this problem. I wish we would have known before it broke a $50,000 Supra. This is the first time I've heard of it on a FAST, though. We built a 1000 HP Supra with a FAST and didn't have problems.

Maybe it's the nature of the newer software?
