Exhaust gaskets (Jordon???)

Does anyone know what exhaust gaskets will hold up to turbocharging? I just had my SLP pass side header completely destroy my felpro gasket with Stage 8 locking header bolts! The locking parts of the bolts pretty much were ruined too, which i'm sure did not help any. I've been thru all kinds of gaskets from Felpro 1406 to the stock one's to a Copper one. I finally got one from a 96 Vortec 1/2 ton truck to seal on the turbo header, now i need one for the pass side. I'm thinking of ordering the same gasket as i got for the turbo header again as SLP's dual cat header has square ports on it. Jordon i know you have two of these headers on your car, what are you using for bolts and gaskets?

i cant see to keep it together either. The best one I have found so far is the stock steel one, and I drilled the correct holes for the SLP header.

details on that 96 vortec half ton gasket?

The 96 1/2 ton is all I use. The ports are the same size as the SLP and I never had one blow out. A matter a fact I just threw two of them on last night

Hey Bill you going to rockfalls this year?

are you guys safty wireing your bolts, or stage 8s? I never had any problems with stuff coming loose on NA motors, but have had a rough time with this turbo setup so far.

I have been using Stage 8's with some success, but like I said I destroyed the locking tabs somehow. I used them all around the exhaust manifold bolts mainly because I can't get to the back 3 bolts when everything is bolted up on the passenger side. I have to take of fthe crossover to even get to the bolts. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to ever touch these things again.

Jordon, how was fitment with those headers. I had to oblong the bolt holes some to even get it to fit then you can't screw in all the bolts you have to get them all started first because the primaries prevent bolt insertion if the header is flush with the head. The farthest back bolt i have to use a 12 pt box wrench and i can turn it 1/12th of a turn at a time. Thats my favorite one

Jake what/where is rock falls. Let me know

I think i'm getting another 96 1/2 ton gasket

Jordon you can ge tthese gaskets thru Lamberts : Exh manifold gasket #12550033 $9.64 each

Bill, rockfalls raceway, the race track. Not sure when the next time im heading up there. You can get the GM quality gaskets for $16 a pair through napa autoparts.
I bought 12 point bolts and have not had problems with the bolt coming out. I checked them every so often and only the first#2 would loosen.

You could try studs....

What length bolts are ya using. I have 3/4 inch stage 8's but i think this time around i will try 1 inchers if they are available. Where is rock falls? I might be taking a trip up to the mall of america memorial day weekend. Maybe then?

I have used the copper ones with pretty good success only had the truck ones blow up on me once (blew the top out of two of the passenger side primaries). I always just about every 2-4k give the bolts a snug to make sure they are all tight though.

If your gasket surfaces are flat you can get away with a bead of copper rtv. BTW, some copper rtv on the header bolts will keep them from backing out.

I doubt that a good gasket is just burning out, you’ve probably got a spot that isn’t flat or your bolts are coming loose. If all else fails, try some nordlocks
