ECU control with FI....

Well, I just worked out a deal from another memeber. I am getting the DFI Gen 7 setup with the distributor, MSD coil and MSD 6al. I am stoked. Dialing in my turbo 383 setup should be great and accurate once I get to that point. I am pretty sure I can command a WOT A/F with the WB setup right? So if I change boost levels the tune will adjust itself based on the A/F target.

Anyone have any impressions/opinions/criticisms of the Gen 7.

I haven't fooled with DFI, but I have tuned an AEM. I don't think it's as simple as commanding an A/F ratio. It has to have a starting point that's pretty close. Just like your car can't run off just it's O2 sensors - it also has to have a starting point (MAF calibration or VE table).

engineermike is right. Your VE table has to be pretty much spot on for fuel delivery vs. boost. You want the correction factor across the bottom to always be as close to zero as possible. The DFI wideband will allow for A/F corrections up to +/-25%. Job Spetter tuned my car initially and set the correction to a maximum of 20%. He said if the VE table is more than 20% off ever the computer has a hard time compensating for such a drastic change and really does not react quick enough. It would either get too much or too little fuel while the ECM is playing catch up.

Bottom line if your VE table is dialed in, and you are not adding an huge amount of boost then yes just changing your A/F tables might be enough. It may not hurt to go in and remove some timing in the same area as well just to be safe.

Hope this helps!

Yea, they got it right. WHat you need to do is take the car for a ride, and log the O2 correction, then go back in and overlay the logfile on the Fuel table and adjust until you get it where the O2 is not correcting at all. Then you can run in closed loop. BTW: I have my wideband correction turned off over 75% throttle.

Yup I was told by a friend of mine who is a god with the AEM that its a bad idea to use the O2 correction with a good amount of throttle because if the O2 sensor goes bad then poof goes your motor

hmmm...

so if the WB doesnt do a good job or correctingA/F at WOT, while use a WB kit at all with DFI (its an option they sell or you can wire in an LM1)?

I would get the LM1 or the LC1, don't buy their kit, it's way too expensive.

You use it as a tuning tool. You can still log the A/F at WOT with it, and that makes sense to me. Plus you use it to correct at part throttle for better driveability.

If you call Mac @fasttrack performance......name is changed .....you can order a wiring harrness and hook up the LM1...

Accel has come out with a new WB for 500.....
