Re: Downside to cog setup???

When I called ATI to get a few opinions they told me that the transmission on the D1SC couldn't handle the stress of a cog drive because it wont slip.
I think they're smoking crack. I run cogs on my D-1SC and it works perfectly. Boost is instantaneous and the charger is fine.

Re: Downside to cog setup???

A M6 car is also going to be harder on a cog setup than an automatic car.

I would recommend the 12 rib setup w/SD Concepts tensioner. The ATI tensioner is garbage.

That is what my initial plan is, and if that doesn't work it'll probably end up being a cog setup.

I noticed that with the12 rib set up you really dont have a belt choice the one that fits is very tight with no tension on it. It creates a PryBar effect kinda if you were to take a pry bar and put it on your crank and put constant pressure on it, the more you tighten the belt the more stress on the crank there is.
There is plenty of people that run very high boost on lt1s with stock hub, you just gotta be very carefull setting it up.
Did you have a keyed hub?

During my engine rebuild awhile back I noticed the stock LT1 crank snout was "gouged" a little bit due to the hub spinning. I just polished it up and been good ever since along with a billet steel keyed crank hub from ASP. How much damage was done when the snout broke?

BADST95, your car is impressive What did you do to have good success with the ATI tensioner? I assume you are running the 12 rib setup with those boost figures.

Thanks, Jason

yes it was keyed. the motor only had 400 brake in miles, not fully broken in yet. No real damage was done car was idling at 900rpm i was in the car when i happend just a loud thump and i shut it off. Got a new crank "scat crank this time" and replaced all the bearings, rebalanced the motor. knock on wood 2k + miles 15+ track passes and no problems.

Thanks! I am using the 12 rib set up from ATI. I have seen several other cars use a 12 rib set up with 18 plus psi without any problems. I made sure that the pulley set up was aligned correctly. I had to machine the ATI aluminum spacer up to work with my balancer. The belt that I used is tight and I locked it down with the ATI tensioner... no slippage.

Re: Downside to cog setup???

The HSR 406 in December's issue of Super Chevy " The New Danger Mouse" (That I was apart of)Also uses a 12 rib pulley. When I was on the phone with procharger prior to the engine build, I also asked for a cog setup. They also discouraged me from the Cog, said it was a pain in the *ss for a "street car" that makes less than 1200hp. Go figure.

Re: Downside to cog setup???

i run the F1 off a 12-rib see about 18# boost no sign of slippage on the data logger. still running the same bracket that came with the P1SC kit. car runs 9.20's with 1.25 60'. can't complain.
