Do 8# IC rides last longer?

Pardon my ignorance on this particular subject as I don't have the experience with it.

I know tons of guys have shortened the lifespan of their stock internal LT1 by using 8 pounds of non-intercooled boost. can the same be said for those using intercoolers?

Yup. The stock internals (specifically the hyper-explosive pistons as my local shop calls them) don't like boost. If you want boost, plan on a forged rebuild. Could be 5 miles, could be 50,000 miles -- but eventually, you'll need it.

Well, amidst all the posts here- I figured it would be about the same. But having usually seen Procharged Lt1's last a bit longer, I just wanted to ask. BTW- my 355 is about to be built.

I am still tempted.

If the car is tuned correctly it can last a while if not beat on alot, but why would you add a supercharger to your car and then baby it? Kinda defeats the purpose.

Mine lasted about 3k miles at most. That was with the initial pcmforless tune. He never sent me my next tune....guess i'll go over to Ion for tuning now.

You don't have to baby a non-forged 8 pound intercooled car. That said, there's no reason to beat it either.

It's all in the tuning - plus some degree of moderation which is a good idea for any car you hope to rely on the start/run more often than not...

Hmm- has me thinking.... lol
I figured it was the tuning. Always is. Maybe I should order the pulley? It'd be kinda fun to make 440 at the rear wheels. Ah- maybe I should just keep my mouth shut and enjoy the car.

To be fair, tuning is very difficult to nail w/o trial and error. I have learned this by learning how to tune myself. I don't see why anyone would want that job (the mail order side of it) - I'd rather guess people's weight .

I guess my main disappointment (still very fun to drive) was that a nitrous or n/a car of equal peak horsepower could beat the supercharged car. Not saying that I got smoked due to lack of power...when I did it was lack of traction....but that is the reason i'm going back with the bottle on my 383. I've never been beaten by a bottled car but then again....it was broken so often I only raced one t/a with boltons and 100 shot lol. BTW....I think mine had started to go before I put the blower on. It had minor blowbye to start with and loss of power. I still wish I had listened to the guys here when they said only put a blower on if you have the time and money to rebuild it.

Well, once I get out of the mess I got myself into ($$$), my 355 will get finished. I tried doing a search on stock 8 psi rides, but didn't come up with too much. I'd love to hear more from guys with Prochargers, seeing as there seems to be an abundance of Vortech guys here.

BTW- from what I've seen- I wouldn't let PCM4Less tune a calculator!!

I ran on 6lbs intercooled on my stock internals for 4000 miles and got ancy just like you are and stepped up to 8lbs intercooled. Car lasted 50 miles before the rings were toast.

If anything I think your better off with 6lbs on a stock motor aposed to 8lbs with the potential of all the blow bye and motor damage.

Build your 355 and do it the right way! Youll love mucho boost

does 2 lbs make that much of a diffrence on a stock car, how much more hp you get from that extra 2 lbs
