Considering buying a 96 z with a powerdyne

I have done some reading and I understand this kit is no longer. When did they stop making it?

The owner claims forged 368, lt4 heads, hot cam, edelbrock intake, 10psi, only a few passes but best of 11.4 with drag tires.

I have read that these usually don't make over 6psi?

What things do I need to be aware of or check for?

I think I will be getting the car pretty cheap too, which is the onl reason I started considering in the first place.

Thanks in advance

That time is pretty good for those modifications. Maybe see if he's got some time slips. A guy will usually keep his best time slips. And I don't get why a guy would build a forged 368 blower engine and use the hot cam unless he has a fairly high compression engine, then just added the blower later, and it's strong enough to hold together. It might be on the level, hard to tell from here. If you're skeptical, ask for build sheets and time slips and see what he comes up with. Is there any intercooling and modified ignition? And has the suspension been worked at all? What transmission is it and is the rear end still the spindly 10 bolt?

Suspension I think is stock. No ignition mods visible. No intercooling.

Might want to ask him for receipts on the short block. 368 cid is an odd number for a production block, especially an LT1.

I thought 368 was odd too. He says he has lots of receipts. I'm going to look at it tomorrow, hopefully he will have enough receipts to make things clear. He seems amazingly clueless about cars.

I was hoping to get some feedback from fellow powerdyne users but I guess their aren't that many on here.

That's never the kind of guy I trust when it comes to what a car can or can't do or what it has in it or how it was taken care of. Make sure to check it for blowby - take the oil fill cap out when it's idling and check for puffs of smoke.

Powerdynes don't have the best record since it's a supercharger that is internally driven by a fiberglass belt instead of gears. They just don't hold up well once you start getting serious so most people just skip them and run Vortechs or Prochargers from the get go.
