chalenging someone to design lt1 turbo kit.

i would like to see a lt1 turbo kit for the lt1 be made for a low entry price for the guy who is all stock or just has basic bolt on's, i was thinking a log style header with a small t-34 turbo mounted to it that would produce a gain of about 50-60 hp at the rear wheels, maybe a small intercoller or maybe with a small turbo it wont need to be intercolled, and im not talking about that rear muffler kind of kit, i would like it to be a traditional kit that would not really require too many other modifications to install it and something that could be done in a weekend, and something that would be equivilent to a cam and header car, so can it be done??

heads+cam+headers would get you that+more and be a more reliable setup.

If you just want to do it to have a turbo I would say the STS setup was just about perfect for what you want (keep the boost low if you don't want to make more power)

exactly.. if all you want is a little more power and the sound of a turbo then the STS kit is perfect. Making a cheap, easy to install turbo kit that mounts in the front probably is never going to happen for an lt1. The parts just cost too much and the room just isn't there to mount stuff.

man, I just dont think there is much of a market for a turbo setup that adds 100hp, even if its cheap.

Ditto.....the cost vs power doesn't add up. It's cheaper to go with traditional bolt-ons IMO.

I hate to call you a liar, but....

It might not be what you are looking for, but there are only a couple of people that have the STS. Unless you come up with a name of your "roommate" I would think that you really ought to edit your post.

yea you shouldnt call him a liar, his name is greg and the sts kit would not fit properly with the frame connectors and before he even got to that point the kit really was fitting like crap, and made with some real low budget parts, you can call rick @sts to confirm he had one....

the turbotech kit is exactly what you described, and is about as cheap as turbo kits are gonna get, unless you build it yourself.

we make and offer a kit that can install in one day or even a fraction of one if you know what you are doing. The price will be in the $3500-$4000 range, it installs in the front of the car and on a stock lt1 has made 480rwhp/530 rwtq on 8 psi and pump gas, 554rwhp and 630 rwtrq on racegas and 12 psi. Took a stock 97 lt1 to 130 mph traps

I didn't want to take this any further until I had talked to Rick and get the other side of the story. Here is what he had to say:

"That guy is talking about one of our first prerelease LT1 systems that we sent to Greg in Michigan to test. Ended up that he had some homemade SFC's on there that somebody welded to
the floorboard the whole way up the car and they went into the center by the trans and the boost pipe wouldn't fit. He packed it up and sent it back. He never installed any of it I don't think. Anyway, the other prerelease systems went right on without much hassles." Rick

Seems to me it wasn't that the kit was "junk". Or that fitment was "crap", or that the parts were "real low budget". It seems that the mods the car already had on it were not compatible with a kit that had been designed a specific way.

Garret makes the turbo. If you quality issues with that I don't know what to tell you. The red/blue flex joints are pretty much industry standard for FI. And the tubing is pretty much standard for aluminized mild steel.

That all being said. I apologize for assaulting you for having an opinion. If you have that opinion about that kit, that is your right. Opinion is not 'fact' and should not be held to that standard.
