Car running HOT with A/C on

With no AC on my car has no problems staying nice and cool...never gets above 193 (fans kick in ) in a 95-100 degree weather. the problem is with the A/C on and sitting in traffic for few min the temperature will start to creep up as high 235+ (it takes a while but it gets up there). I had to turn the A/C off few times as i didn’t want to risk it getting any hotter then that. As soon i turn the A/C off the fans cool it down to 193 (it will take few min). When the car is moving i have no problems with the heat and temp stays around 190ish.

Car has a new stock radiator, 160 degree thermostat, and electric water pump. i am running 30/80 coolant/water mix........any ideas how i can get the car to run cooler when its not moving?

I had that problem too...

I could drive around all day in the summer time and the car would not get hot..but with maybe 5 min of AC use the temp would climb

....only thing that took care of the problem for me was a Griffin radiator

I had the same problem last year. Temperature would slowly creep up idleing with the AC on. I bought a direct stock replacement radiator from Autozone. It was a universal meaning it would fit Autos and Manuals. It had a couple of extra holes for a tranny cooler which I didn't use because I have a M6. I was happy to find out that it was a direct replacement and was 1" thicker than my old radiator. The only problem I had was the procharger spacers for my fans had to be modified for the new thicker radiator. If I was running a 12 rib instead of an 8 rib it probably would not have fit because the fan motor sits so close to the crank pulley. Problem solved.

Just yank out the A/C and your problem is solved . Seriously though, it sounds like you'd have to step up the fans big time, or just go with an aftermarket radiator.

My A/C is yanked so I don't have a problem getting the motor hot (just me inside the car on a hot day ). But if my A/C system was still in, I would definatly be just doing the aftermarket radiator.

What do you do with that extra 10??

I would make sure both fans are good.

Hey Marcin,

Did you get this fixed yet. Now that the temperatures are really hot here in Kentucky my temps are starting to get close to the red when idleing with the AC on. I saw that autozone had some fan motors for $44 a piece and was considering giving it a shot. My fan motors have about 150,000 miles on them.

Wow looks like we're all in the same club "extreme weather, power adders, cant run AC" I've been at this for two summers in Las Vegas and this is my last stab at it. If you do need to go the new radiator route, check these guys out. If things dont work out for me I'll be buying one here in the next few weeks: http://www.extremeradiator.com/store...spx?sku=1486-4
The staff there seems pretty cool. I was talking to them and they did NOT want to sell me a radiator because my car runs just fine at highway speeds and that points to the fans and what not. They didn't want me to be disappointed in their product-that says a lot for a company.

Mine is doing exactly the same thing. After looking over my cooling system. I'm convinced it is an airflow problem. The supercharger, bracket, pulleys and such block the airflow through the engine compartment. All that hot air just stagnates right behind the radiator. I'm thinking some creative ducting with some sheet aluminum may solve the problem by moving the hot air out of the engine bay.

I just got BeCool's newest high-HP radiator. It was a lot of $$$, but supposedly it will be able to handle daily driver duties on my car. I'll give everyone a review on it when I get the car back next month.

is this a common problem with boosted cars?
