Can a stock short block take 500hp???
Can a stock short block take 500hp???
I want to build a 500 hp LT1. I have roughly 325hp now. Is this possible with 10psi of boost? Can the stock rods and crank handle 500hp?
I do plan to use forged pistons, a good set of rings and bearings, and some hard valves.

i am running 12 pounds on a stock motor. stock rods and crank are doing the job. if you go with like 9:1 or 8:5:1 compression pistons i wouldnt see a problem with it handling that much boost safely

Are you running stock pistons??

yep, stock pistons. Motor is internally stock except for a hotcam. not suggesting that i have a safe combination, but it can be done. I am building a new motor so i figured i would have some fun with this one.

You sill running stock heads as well or have you put on some with bigger combustion chambers? How long have you been running this combo? In any case running that much boost with stock pistons and it staying together is a feat, must have some damn good tuning.

425 should be easily reached. I did 405 on a stock motor with a HotCam and my DIY twin turbos at 6 psi. No tuning; probably could have gotten closer to 450 if I leaned on it a bit.
The stock crank and rods will live well past 500 rwhp with good prep and new rod bolts. Try to keep the rpm below 6500.

yeah still running stock heads. not for long though

well i havent gotten the car to the dyno yet due to my tranny crappin out on me. in the process of swapping to a t56 now so some dyno numbers will be coming soon. the car never hooked and it destroyed the transmission, so you can guess at what kind of power it is putting down
.

Fun should last for about....as long as a 14 yr boy could last with Britney Spears.

.Stroking my brothers WS-6 to a 377 with ported stock heads, 2.00 1.57 valves got him 315 rwhp...with a bad opti-crap. Spark was breaking up above 4000 rpm, and that got him a toasted 4L60E in less than 100 miles. The car was maintained very well for the 47,000 miles it had on it. Doesn't take that much to tear one apart.
