Brad Brand intakes and others
Brad Brand intakes and others
Trying to fab up my own intake like the brad brand. even when i hook up the stock vortech tube it looks like the bolt for the steering wheel linkage will hit.. its a 94 z28- anyone have any problems?
Re: Brad Brand intakes and others
I think i know what your talking about if so: you have to spin the plastic boot that goes around the botom of the steering shaft so it blocks the knuckle from touching the intake the shaft will still turn but the plastic will stay in place due to the intake tube pressing against it
hope this helps

Re: Brad Brand intakes and others
mac midlength - also i know once i'm done with the motor that when i turn the wheel the shaft will kinda rub also on the header. but the bottom bolt looks like it will hit the vortech tube and rub it no matter what.
Re: Brad Brand intakes and others
no i haven't called them yet- the car is on jack stand- but doubt that will make a difference - you can turn the wheel freely with out any problems, but i beat if you cut the wheel real hard fast all the way it might rub. no problems yet. did you replace your flex pipe for your ATI?
Re: Brad Brand intakes and others
no im in the process of changing motors i want to figure something out before the new one goes in so i can install it out of the car. im sure you know what a pita it is to get that hose on.( if vortec's mount in the same location).
any ideas?

Re: Brad Brand intakes and others
well this is my first SC install- was easy but rough on the fingers- haha. plus laying on the garage floor trying to holg it and put the bolts in by yourself sucks. anyhow hmm, not reallt sure what to tell ya. yeah the intake hose is a pain underneath- not sure how ATI is setup though. i would see no problem having it installed on the new motor and dropin the whole motor in place- now headers would be a problem. you should be okay. what type of pipe or tube did you get or fab up for the flex or ribbed hose??
Re: Brad Brand intakes and others
Im going to be installing the engine on a lift so i will have the motor on the k-member ready to go with exaust hopefully going in and out thru the bottom is the way to go. in my opinion the more stuff on the motor when it goes in the better. I have been using the stock dryer hose till now
Re: Brad Brand intakes and others
If your car has ever been wreck the macs can rub if car was not realigned well. Also if your rag joint is starting to get some play in it it will rub, may need to replace or rebuild that joint. Advance or Autozone has a replacement rag joint in their help section but may need new bolts or get creative with a grinder.
Re: Brad Brand intakes and others
also high milage, sagging motor mounts can cause the headers to be hitting the steering shaft.
for those of you thinking about replacing the dryer tube, definitly do it. between replacing that hose, going from a 6" to 9" filter, and moving the MAF from the inlet to the pressure side, i picked up 6psi
