Boosted stock motor check in

Ok, i know the topic of boosting a stock motor has been beaten to death...but, how many of you have had small ammounts of boost on your engine, how did you like it and how long did it hold up? I'm not looking for awesome dragstrip performance, just want some more umph on the street...

I got a great deal on a used ATI D1 setup and am thinking about putting it on my stock LT1 with a 6psi pulley, intercooler, 42lb injectors, a walbro 340 FP, and a safe pcmforless tune. Engine is a 95 Ironhead LT1 with 130k miles and is in good shape, burns no oil, has good compression...

From what I understand, it should add almost 100 hp throughout the powerband. Mabey thats a high estimate...

Look for a member named ChevyChad over on Projecttransam.com. He had an ATI P1SC on a stone stock TA and could probably give you some numbers from his experience.

Re: Boosted stock motor check in

I have had 6 psi on the car for over 25k, maybe 30k miles. 36# injectors, dyno tuned, walbro pump etc etc. Search for a recent post of mine in the forced induction forum, I listed my compression test results. It will last if you start out with a good, well taken care of motor. You must play your cards right and not beat on it unnecessarily. You must always employ a bit of caution...

ehh nothing I can say hasn't already been said. Basically, if you plan on romping on the car with a pcmforless tune, don't get a blower. If you don't plan on building the motor eventually or don't see that as a possibility, don't get a blower. Otherwise, go right ahead.

Totally stock longblock with 8.5lbs from an intercooled p600b. I have had it on since July 2004 and it is still with me. Hp numbers in sig so it doesn't look like the motor is hurt.

I picked up right at 150 hp at the peak but you won't pick up 100 throughout the rpm range. It takes a while to build. Definately gave more go on the street although I was faster with a 100 shot of gas on the track.

I have a D1SC running 6psi of boost on a stock short-block. Also running mildly ported stock heads, and a CC306 cam. I only have 16 degrees of timing in the engine. Had the blower on it for about 2000 miles now, no track passes yet.

Stock motor/trans (down to the converter and headers) with a P600B, 12-bolt/ET Streets and some suspension mods went 12.3@117 about 3 years ago for me. It's all about keeping fuel in it and taking timing out under boost.

Don't know the dyno numbers since I can't race a dyno.
