Looks about right for a 383. What are you using for main caps?

I am not sure... I thought about the splayed cap conversion but everyone that I talked to says its over kill and the money spent could be used somewhere else.

No sir, this is not correct. Those numbers are with the base system with stock motor. I got an fully forged 383 with a upgraded T-67 turbo. The car is in the shop now getting tuned. I do not have numbers on the new setup yet. Good catch.

Thats one of the items I will be working on in the future. I also have to get a new rear and rebuilt tranny. I already spent a lot of money and still have a lot to do. But, we are working toward the goal. Its makes it more fun when you do it in steps

Re: blown 383 cost

I finally got the motor back and here is the final breakdown on costs:

Block machining w/hone deck $300.00
Valve job $110.00
Pressure test heads $ 0.00
Cylinder head resurfacing $ 70.00
SCAT/Probe Forged Rotating assembly $1389.00
Upgrade to 4340 steel crank $250.00
Upgrade to 4340 H beams $120.00
Assemble long block $450.00
Complete balance $125.00
Stroker clearance $ 45.00
Canton 15-242T Pan $283.00
Oil pan pick up $ 34.00
Cut dual key on crankshaft + machine front timing cover for BB hub $100.00
Splayed caps + machine work for conversion $275.00
Stroker clearance $45.00
Gasket set $121.00
ARP head studs & main studs $171.00
Melling oil pump $ 0.00
Crane lifters $155.36

Total labor: $1475.00
Total parts: $2523.36
Total + 8.25% sales tax = $4,206.54

Does that sound like a fair price for a fully forged 383 with the 4 bolt splayed main cap conversion?
How much boost do you think it will handle?

-B

P.S. I forgot that the price included CC 977 springs & seats, Speed Pro Hell Fire rings, clevite bearings, & melling oil pump. They also spent time clearancing the oil pan to clear the dipstick tube.
