blower and exaust turbo

jw about this but would there be a way to setup a blower and then a exaust turbo or would that just be a waste? i think it would be sweet if it worked

Yes it's been done before. Usually with a roots or screw blower then a turbo afterwards. It's not a bad idea but costly let alone a lot of heat. Usually one power adder will suffice......usually.

carnutz is right, it would be costly. Maybe if you got a cheap supercharger and a cheap factory turbo and just wanted to find a way to use them together???

Unless you have a whole lot of money and are going for somewhere in the 2000+ HP range (aren't we all?), then most people would probably say its not worth it.

That's funny because you never see a 2000 hp motor with more than one power adder - most are single turbo or nitro-blown. The few turbo+blown engines you do see are only making 500 - 700 hp, people thinking they can do better than a single power adder.

Re: blower and exaust turbo

you only would need that if you had a small displacement like say a small 2.5l ......... the roots blower(ie: postive displacement supercharger) will make boost right off idle..but then it runs out of volume....that or it starts blowing hot air if you over spin it,

so pulley it low...say 8 psi....then have your nice turbo set to run 18psi..that way you get boost you can use in the upper rpms....well...cfm you can use

8psi from the supercharger
18 from the turbo
for a total of 18psi...or what have you

...the thing is...on a 5.7L v8...you dont need the roots blower to give you the lowend power...you already have the displacement to make the tq...so...all in all...just go with the right size turbo and save the cost and the time

notice the clutch.....

Re: blower and exaust turbo

See that's the key right there, a clutch driven belt system for the Blower. Otherwise the drag of the blower gets too burdensome on the top-end.

Still, I say either a blower or turbo, then nitrous to fill the gap.

Re: blower and exaust turbo

A sucessful screw blower /turbo combo had positive torque measured at the crank pulley at upper rpms.
