Blower Advise Please
Blower Advise Please
I have a 383 stroker with forged internals, ported and polished heads running 10.5:1 comprestion. I want to put a blower on it and am thinking procharger D1-SC because of the volume of the motor, but put a larger pully on it to keep the boost at 8psi. What size fuel pump and injectors would i need? and any overall advise would be helpful.
Re: Blower Advise Please
I suggest you switch to low impedance injectors and use 75# injectors. Read this write-up:

Your high compression ratio will be challenging to control pre-ignition.

Re: Blower Advise Please
Why on earth does he need the expense of a low-z driver board and injectors that support 1000 hp? You don't drown an engine to control detonation. 8 psi is manageable at 10-11 to 1 with 92 octane or better and an intercooler.
Re: Blower Advise Please
I think his reasoning may not be the injector size issue, as much as the injector opening speed. The 50# injectors are one of the worst injectors to tune in both the LT1 & LS1 applications. The low impedance converter makes this tuning much easier as well as allows for future upgrades (with the 72# injectors) without an injector upgrade. If you do infact stick with the high impedance injectors, try some Siemens 57# or 60# units, they are much easier to tune...... you will be much happier in the long run.

It's obvious you didn't bother reading the link; hard to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

Re: Blower Advise Please
Its poor advice, and the link doesn't justify the expense. Keep your snide comments to yourself, or don't, but comments like that remove any credibilty to your views. 50# injectors work and anything more is totally unnecessary and hurts low load resolution.
Re: Blower Advise Please
It's obvious he's building his setup for high HP; a fully forged 383 with a blower. If you're active on this board you know that most high HP people out grow their injectors only to have to purchase bigger injectors later. If he was running a "tame" long block with a 6 - 8 lb setup, I would agree with 42 lb injectors. I reacted to your "what on earth..." statement; I was just pointing out options. Snide comments; talk about a hypocrite.
Re: Blower Advise Please
I read OBE1 95Z28's post and link (thank You ) I found it very interesting it sugests that larger than 50 lb injecters are harder to open/harder to tune. The injecters are about the same price but an aditional 399 dollars for the converter. Is this a nessery up grade. Thanks for all Your input.More confusssed than ever.
Re: Blower Advise Please
Really depends on your plans for the car. If you have mod fever like most of us, you'll want to up you boost later, then you'll need bigger injectors again. Considering the money I have in my car, I didn't see the extra $400 for the Versafueler box to be excessive to allow my tuner, Jeff Creech, to have better control of my injectors so that I have good driveability when cruising and plenty of fuel when I have my foot in it. The bigger injectors are also flow matched. Give Jeff Creech a call and ask his advise carolinaautomasters.com
Re: Blower Advise Please
I think I've done every mod posible to the engine that I can ecept the blower and my high comprestion (10.5:1) realy limits the amount of boost that I can apply. So will I need to go biger than 50lb injectors with this motor?
Re: Blower Advise Please
Nostock, I have about the same CR as you do and you can read my sig for the rest of my set up. With 50# injectors, I have plenty of fuel and the injectors are no where near maxing out. I don't even run my boost-a-pump.
Re: Blower Advise Please
I would seriously look at the high impedance 60 lb siemens (aka mototron) injectors previously mentioned. Apparently the Buick V6 guys are using these with great success and they idle smooth. Look on ebay, I think they are around $430 a set right now. That injector has a little more potential than the 50's in case you want more boost or nitrous later. Keep in mind your static compression ratio at 10.5:1 is really too high for FI.
