ATI question

I saw this on the LS1 board:

Down the road I want to get the ATI Procharger. But what was with the issues with the ATI Procharger. I want one, but they said that they were going through belts after only a couple of dyno runs. and making a max of 8psi Then they put some cogs thing on there ??? And made 15 psi. Anyone shead some light?

For my P600 setup the belt tension setup is not the greatest and I had to take the dremel tool to my fan shroud to gain extra clearence. Under load the belt will move a little and it was enough for it to get caught up with part of th efan shroud. I went through about three belt before I caught on, but after I fixed it no issues with the belt getting caught up and shredding. Now the belt tension setup is kind of a pain. The belt tension is setup by tighting on a bolt and screw setup, the problem is that you have to guess if it is tight enough. You have to make sure not to overtighten it or you will eventally burn the bearing up, or if its too loose the belt will slip and no boost. Also after a while you need to tighten up the belt just a little because the belt will stretch. These are the issues I had with my setup.

Anytime where your trying to make bog boost like around 15-17psi your going to have belt slippage problems do to using such small a small blower pulley. Its not as much of a problem when make moderate to decent boost levels like 6-14psi. Every applications is not the same and and this problem happens with all supercharger brands, not just ATI. They went to a cog setup b/c they coldnt get the belt from stop slipping or breaking so the next option is to do a cog setup. Although its a pita and theres always the chance of breaking more belts or snapping crank snouts but hats just the risk you take but the gains out weigh the negetives.

If you have an LT1, you can go with the D-1SC and get the 12 rib belt setup. It's very nice. Twice as wide as the same setup on 'vettes...

As far as the whole belt issue goes I would highly recommend going with an SD spring loaded tensioner. Yeah it works big time. No slippage whatsover. I made 14lbs of boost out of my F1 (using a single 6-rib belt).
