Talking Another day at the track

Roller coaster ride at the track today…first bring you up to speed with what has happened this year. 383 motor built (for my p600b) done after the New Year first time to the track (May) I pull off a 12.3 @ 116 last year best 13.0 @ 107 I was very happy with the new motor. Following day again at the track I touch the rev (stock) limiter and blow head gasket on #1 cyl. Replaced head gasket and installed a Mallory Hyfire. Car still runs very poorly found at bad water pump drive seal leaked oil onto the opti and yep you guessed it got inside. New opti went in got the car back together same day ripped one tooth off three on the spider gears (stock 10-bolt). 6 weeks latter received a strange 12-bolt (awesome piece by the way) 11PM day before a big race weekend at the local track. Put it in that night. I decide I will skip the first day of the race weekend and work out bugs and break it in.

That brings us to today. First run I hit the top of first and car falls on its face (maybe rev limiter) shift the second…dead in the water need it get it towed back to the pits. Thinking of course the worst (shattered opti) it turned out to be the fuse to the Hyfire. New fuse…Hyfire back up and running minus second rev limiter (must have been what blew the fuse). Second run of the day great till I hit third. Car falls on its face again coast across the traps with the fire truck hot on my trail. Now I am thinking it’s the ignition again so I need a tow vehicle not a fire truck. I get out and walk to the front to open the hood and one of the firemen says “nice flames man”. Apparently a six-foot flame was seen shooting out the back of my car at half-track. A quick glance confirmed the flame…burnt paint around both tail pipes. Again thinking the worst (maybe a bent valve) I found that my intake tube to the throttle body popped off and all that air seen by the MAF fuel was dumped into a flooding and dyeing motor then there was ignition.

Has anyone else have an experience like that about the intake tube and risk of FIRE?

Anyway I bypassed the Hyfire definitely causing other issues and ended up running a 12.4 @ 116 on a hot and humid day. WHAT A DAY.
