Ok. Obviously methanol is cheaper normally, but I've got a bunch of denatured alcohol sitting around.

I did some research and it says denatured alcohol is typically about 90% ethanol and 10% methanol.

Will this stuff work the same? Or will I need to retune ?

Will it provide the same cooling / detonation resistane benefit? Or be better/ worse.

What about power? Will ethanol or methanol typically make more power? Keep in mind, I'm using it w/ 50% distilled water for the deton ation resistance on my stock bottom end 93 lt1.

 

I used to run denatured alcohol in my 89 TTA. Never could run water with mine, so it was straight DA. I easily ran 23psi of boost with it using 93 octane with zero knock. Without it, 17psi was usually the max I could run. Never tried methanol, so I don't know what the difference would have been.

 

I've been successfully running 50:50 water/Meth in my setup for years with no problems at all. Still with about a gallon left of the $12 worth of Meth I got years ago. At that price, and the nice properties it yields, I've never looked at doing anything else.
