355 buildup turbo project...questions

I am planning on building up a 355 for a twin turbo road race setup. I would like to have a max of 850rwhp with 14-18lbs boost. And a very good torque range on the powerband. I would like full boost around 1800-2000rpms. and hopefully 650-750rwtq around 3000-3500rpms. Does this sound thiesable? Maybe two garrett t44 turbos?
Engine wise, probably 5.75in. rods, 8.5:1 CR, hydraulic cam redlining around 7,500.
Heads: Has anyone ran any 32V heads here? Anybody used arao's heads? wonder what kind of torque curve I could have with a turbo 350 with 32valve heads?!?
I'd appreciate some feedback and comments. Thanks,
Tony

only guy i know that got the 32v heads working said it cost him around $4500 to get them to work.

as for the turbos.........id say twin 44's would definetly support that kind of power.

btw, its "feasible"

I really don't think you can make 850rwhp on a 355 having full boost at that low of an RPM. Not to mention you be making enough torque to pull a cruise liner. I may be wrong, lets see how brady's turbos spool and how much capability they have.

ya ur gonna have to give up some spool up time, not much, but some to support 850 rwhp.

my project is going to make 950 at the flywheel, and at about 2500-2800 is when i am planning to have the turbos at full boost, thought I may have to move that to 3000-3400.

there is a benefit to spooling up a little later....traction. if you turbos have full boot at 2000 rpm, and ur making 600 ftlbs, you wont hook up.....so waiting for 2500-3000 rpms for full boost will let you hook up well, hit ur high hp mark and make u happy

two garrett t44's.....yes 850 rwhp....definatley

since you asked

My turbos spool almost instantly, like I can have 15+ psi boost in less than a second. Spool time isn't an issue. Period.

I have plenty of .log files from the FAST to back it up too, if anyone cares.

I'm running a pair of TE-60's prepared by John Craig, 1-5/8" stainless headers by some guy who would be better suited welding mufflers on yugos.. and a big *** intercooler. (355" LT1)
The turbos should support 1200hp; I don't have any idea how much horsepower I have, but it's enough.

Ask Craig Smith (FAST) if it's got a lot of lag time, I think I left a lasting impression in his mind as well as most other passengers

* I am running a TH400 and a loose converter, if you have a 6 speed YMMV.

Thumbs up

I don't think you'll need to rev it nearly that high, I wouldn't. I don't think you'll get a hydraulic cam to agree either.. I redline mine at 6600, shift at 6400. It pulls so hard at low rpms that you don't have to wind it out to see great results.

Other than that, your project sounds good

good luck!

Thanks for all the replies guys... much appreciated. Hey Brady, who built your engine and do you have a list of parts you used? Who did all the turbo work and do they have a way of being contacted? You don't have any idea how much horsepower you are running? -Tony

JK racing built my shortblock. GTP does my heads. A pretty good list of parts used is on my website under "mods".

The guy who started my turbo project is ill, and not working. The guy who finished it and made everything fit and work is me.

I have a rough idea that I'm running around 900hp. I don't lose sleep at night not knowing my rwhp down to the 10th.
