What's the lowest safe clearance for header collectors when running on the street? Assuming one is careful about where they drive?

I've got the new exhaust system on with Hooker long tube headers, and the bottom of the collector is slightly over 3.5 inches from the ground. It's the lowest point in the exhaust system.

Does that sound overly low to you?

i have not measured mine but i think i only have about 3" of clearance on my car, it is currently lowered with sportlines and i had true duals on it for a while with hooker headers. It would scrape once and a while but i know the roads i drive fairly well and would just be carefull.

Just be careful, and avoid speed bumps.

You have a little less clearance then what I have and I haven't dragged on anything. Just be careful of your surroundings: sharp inclines, potholes, speed bumps, ect. and you should be fine.

Mines about the same on stock suspension. I hit every once in a while on speed bumps.

I usually take the speed bumps at an angle so I never graze them. My Spohn torque arm is a whole different story though, I have caught that many of times. One time it was to the effect where I was backing out of a spot on a sharp incline and the car got stuck.

wow 1badZ95 - I couldnt help but notice your SIG: I have a gen1 engine with a 395 minirammed EFI on it, running a custom ground hyd. roller cam that sports a 230/236 duration profile. Guess what it dynoed at? 396 RWHP and 383 ft.lb of torque.... You got me by two whole horsepower....

2000GTP - I've been eyeing speed bumps in a whole new way these past few days. I have some significant wiring upgrades to tackle before everything runs again, probably 12 to 16 hours of labor to get it all done.

don't know what roads are like there but i would say anything that doesn' hit is high enough like speed bumps, some driveways or raised manhole covers would be the things to watch out for/but basically any height you feel comfortable tearing down the street with is good
