well if i had also put headers on it would it sound better... i got a estamate from a company to install them and stuff with pacesetter headers and mangnaflow exhaust and hi flow cat. and it was going to be like 1500. so i think im going to try to do it my self... IF i were to get headers also would i have to do pipe bending to get the exhaust to fit?
I know you probably dont want to hear this, but there really is no point in wasting your money on headers or a full exhaust on that v6. It will quickly become a money pit. A slow money pit. I understand completely about the muffler swap. Ive done the same. I also put an 80 series flowmaster on the wife's 98 3.8 camaro. But truthfully you are never going to see any real horsepower from that car without going turbo.
well i would have gotten the v8 but the only reson i didnt was because im 16 and the insurance for the v8 would have been way to expensive, not that the v6 isnt expensive enough. haha. i had also been thinking about just doing an engine swap to a lt1.
If I was you, put a muffler on it. That will help you get a decent sound out of it. Save up your money instead of putting it in this car. Take good care of it and in a year or two, sell it off and pick up a v8 car.
Re: what kind of exhaust??
I know that this is an old thread and I'm not sure if you've decided on your setup or better yet if you even still have the car, but I know glasspacks sound amazing on LT1's. Not sure how they'd sound on a V6, you got the 3800 II so it might sound decent. I'd go with a cherry bomb or a flowmaster muffler for now if I were you and then I'd base your next move on how that sound would suit you, they're relatively inexpensive and sound good on V6's.
Re: what kind of exhaust??
I would stay away from Flowmater- he said he wanted a deep tone and on a v6 esp the Flowmaster will have a high-pitched tone at upper rpms.
I have heard Flowmaster's on more than one V6 and even on the V8's they have a higher pitched tone. Magnaflow is probably going to be your best attempt at getting a deeper tone. The fact of the matter is no matter what exhaust you put behind it its still a V6 and will sound like one to anyone with a trained ear.

Re: what kind of exhaust??
The muffler is your choice, just try not to make it terrible loud, as far as the full system I wouldnt recommend it, if you decide you want to get a LT1 car just go out and buy one, sell yours ,or use it for parts when you get the new one
