What else do I need for my header install?
What else do I need for my header install?
Have Pacesetter LTs with no emission hookups and ORY coming in the mail today
Also have felpro gaskets coming with them
Plan to get:
PB blaster
Bolts (arp 1"?)
EGR blockoff plates
Mail tune
Cutout
Case of favorite brew for install
What O2 extensions do I need to get? (How many, what length, etc)
Opinions on the gaskets and bolts?
Am I forgetting anything else?

Re: What else do I need for my header install?
Thats what I have, just haven't gotten around to putting it all back together, it's all torn apart right now. Save yourself some pain, forgo the PB blaster, get a small canister of propane and a 90 degree blow torch tip. Heat all the bolts till they glow, then remove. Using PB blaster, I'd estimate proper soak time at about 1 week for a 10 year old car. If you snap one, you're pulling the head and sending it to the machine shop. Just go with heat.
Re: What else do I need for my header install?
I used ARP 3/8 12 points and I wish I had used either allen heads or 5/16 12 point bolts. Some of the heads on the bolts were just way to close to get a wrench on. I think even regular bolt heads would be better since you can get an open end wrench on them. I just finished putting mine on this weekend. Just my 2 cents. Good luck
Re: What else do I need for my header install?
2001 Z28 LS1 here
Whats ORY? Im thinking about the black pacesetter LT's....there is a
no EGR option....? Whats that??
Someone school me please. No emission sniffers here (Texas) but I dont have
a tune on the car to take care of any CEL's.
What do I need to get this going. Cant afford the coated ones.
Looking at these.
Already have a y pipe & a pypes system out the back with a SLP intake.
Thanks!

Re: What else do I need for my header install?
ORY means off road y pipe(the ORY relocate the cats which will not make it legal), no egr means that the headers will not have the emission hook up for the EGR valve. You can remove the egr stuff but it will be a minimal difference I believe it doesn't come on during wide open throttle(somebody correct me if im wrong) and the only thing you will gain from removing would be to clean up the engine bay and whatever it weighs.
You will also need some new gaskets can't recommend you any since I haven't bought headers yet but somebody else could chime in on that. From what I have heard and read you will need a lot of patience if its the first time you do this.

Re: What else do I need for my header install?
You have a y-pipe or a y-pipe for the pacesetters? There is a chance they are different.
I went with stainless band clamps- and every exhaust I will do from now on will have them front to back. They are a little pricey up front but the fact that you can take the exhaust off as quick as you put it together makes it all worth it to me. Not to mention that down the road being able to sell an exhaust that isn't all crimped up and cut apart is typically worth more.

Re: What else do I need for my header install?
Here's what I did with mine:
PaceSetter QuikTrip Long Tube Headers, ARMOR*Coat, Race Version
Custom ORY (From a '95 Z28 with Pacesetter LT's) -- I ran 3" collectors and had a buddy weld them to my headers then bolted my y-pipe in place.
Fel-Pro #1406 Header Gaskets
!AIR/!EGR Blockoffs
3/8-16in x 1" Percy's Split-Lock Header Bolts
2x 24" o2 Extensions, Flat Connectors
I was pretty happy with what I bought. The PB blaster should help if your y-pipe is rusted on pretty good. I'd also recommend picking up some o2 sensors in case you can't get them out of your manifolds.
