Using a tailpipe expander to make a 3" pipe slip fit?

I need to shorten my x-pipe some and don't have access to a welder and would just like to do this myself.

Can I use a tailpipe expander such as this to stretch standard 3" pipe enough to make a slip fit connection? IE, make the piece I cut off slide into the expanded pipe and clamp it on...

Those things don't work very well.

If I was you I would cut it off, measure it and mark it with a marker or paint pen and take it to a meffler shop and tell one of the guys what you want to do.

I have had to do it several times...I have tried those tools and the big cone types, they aren't worth a good toot

Muffler shop has never charged me to expand a pipe

You MIGHT be able to get that sucker to work with a very large cheater bar (20+ft). If you already have it then you could try, the worst youl'l do is break an already useless tool, i seriously doubt it would do any damage to the pipe before breaking. Or if you are adverse to taking it to a muffler shop, these will do the trick.

Thanks guys, I just used a basic 3" slip fit coupler and clamps and it's doing the trick for now. I finally have exhaust again and a much quieter car.. (be it an xpipe, bullets, and dumps )
