shorties

I know the stock manifolds on a 93z are extremely restrictive. how much rwh can you gain from eldebrocks or hooker shorties. mine has no cat, lingenfelter cai,1 le elbow, tpi airfoil, hooker aerochamber with ss tips.I would think even them would be an improvement. what is the diameter of stock exhaust?thanks snareman

My guess is somewhere between 10-15 rwhp from the shorties. Possibly up to 20 if you went with longtubes.

You'll find most people will tell you just to get some longtubes and an off-road y-pipe. Since you don't have a cat, you can delete the EGR as well. Makes plug changes very easy as well.

Shorties will give you some nice gains over stock manifolds, though. Look on Summit for different diameter headers.

>well depending on the:
Long tube headers some really sacrifice ground clearance, and making spark plug replacement almost impossible.

midlength headers are pretty good gain some as good if not better than Long tubes and you can still keep your gound clearance and original Ypipe (sometimes)

shorty headers definately keep your factory Ypipe stock ground clearance and usually the spark plug access is easier like stock manifolds.

I went from Edlebrock shorties to JetHot LT and saw improvements, but can't say how much due to the fact that I changed to many things at one time.
but we are going to dyno the car with the JetHots and then change to the Kooks stepped 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 LT.

way easier to change plugs w/ long tubes than shorties

i had bought some hooker shorties a while back and ended up returning them bc i figured i would just fork over the extra cash for long tubes. i still haven't gotten around to buying headers since but if i had to do it i would definitely do long tubes.

Don't forget your state's emmissions requirements...only reason I have shorties on mine...I would love to run LTs, but would have to swap them out every 2 years for smog.

Yeah, if yu gotta keep the cat and pass smog like we do in California, shorties are better than nothing. Whatever you get, you want them coated. Keeps down the heat and prevents rust.
