Quieter after longtubes?

Ok, so after my Kooks LTs and catted y-pipe install, I swear my car is quieter! It's got a nice low RPM growl and still loud up top, but I kinda miss that deep rumble from the stock setup and LM catback. What's the best way to get loud again? I am considering a new catback, since my LM1 is all crooked and leaky now from banging on it to get it to fit.

This is it before: http://www.mediamax.com/mrseven7/Hosted/Audio1.wma

And this is it now: http://www.mediamax.com/mrseven7/Hosted/Audio2.wma

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

This is kinda obvious, but was your stock setup leaking before, or now that you have LT's? Maybe it's leaking so much that it sounds so quiet, I had a few leaks after my LT install. I just welded it as good as I could at all slip-fit connections and my it sounded way better than it did with just the exhaust alone.

and your clips aren't working for some reason my friend.

Hmm, the audo clips work for me, oh well. But yea, I know I have a couple leaks, I can hear a faint ticking on acceleration. I plan on taking it to a shop and have the LM straightened and welded, so hopefully that will fix it. Thanks for the reply!

They're working for me now . You can tell the difference, considering how raspy the 2nd one is; I think it's just your leaks

When I did long tubes, I felt my exhaust was tamer as well. I had a cutout welded on though and it took care of that little problem.

A cutout is a very good way to go especially if you plan on taking your car to the track.

the reason for this is because headers scavenge better than stock manifolds... meaning the pressure evens out more at the collector. This makes it sound quieter through mufflers... get a cutout, and youre going to notice the exact opposite effect

It's not your imagination it headers make the car quieter. I always like the way my old TPI car sounded stock with the cutout. Sounded deep and mean. When I added headers it got cleaner, raspier and quieter. Oh well. A Flowmaster and a cutout will make up for it.

Well, I took it to an LT1 guy out here who works on LT1 Vettes all the time. And he found my exhaust leak, the header bolts were working their way out and the gasket blew. So I replaced them with Felpro 1470s, and no more leak! I can definitely hear and feel the difference, no more ticking either.

You got to keep an eye on those bolts from time to time. Same thing happened to my friend, the bolts worked themselves loose and one day he blew out both of his gaskets.

I'm sure some of it had to do with my catback of choice as well. It is pretty tame at idle and not as loud as others when taken thru the powerband.
