PUtting Headers on Right NOW
Finally got them on!
Finished it up last night. My step-dad and I worked on it from 2 - 6 pm saturday and 2 - 8 sunday. It took awhile but we managed.
We ran into relatively few problems. It was pretty smooth. Other than a couple of tricky bolt in tight places.
Basically this is what happened:
* Removed all exhaust tubing, Y pipe, and muffler
* Removed the starter
* Took out the oil pan and filter (gasket needed changed)
* Took out the bolt to the motor mounts (did not replace the mounts)
* Loosened the bar that connects the struts (don't know the name of the bar)
* Took out the transmission dip-stick tube (drained all trans fluid
)
* Replaced the oil pan gasket and put the oil pan back on
Day 2
* Removed manifolds
* Removed all plugs
* Dropped the drivers side header in from top and put in screws
* Lifted the engine a touch and put in the passenger header from the bottom and put in bolts (we removed the tappet (sp) cover. it was VERY clean in there. We were both impressed)
* Put in new plugs (Bosch Platinum Series)
* Then we basically put everything back together
The only problem I have right now is the O2 sensors. They weren't long enough. We got some wire and connectors with the header installation kit but we didn't hook them up. I wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do or not.
I planned on running no Cats and deleting the rear O2 code from the computer when I got my MadZ28tune. But the guy at the exhaust shop got me paranoid because he said that it is possible to ruin the life of your engine by deleting these codes because it may make it run to lean or too rich.
Could someone please explain this to me. Because I have no idea.

As for your second issue, the exhaust shop guy I'm sorry to say doesn't know what he is talking about in that area. The rear 02 sensors only monitor the catalytic converters, period. They do not have any role in the actual fuel management calculations, that is what the front 02 sensors are for. By removing the rear 02 sensors and cats, and having the codes tuned out of your PCM, will do absolutely no damage to your car.
For your first issue, you can buy 02 sensor harness extensions. If you get the 12" extensions, those should be plenty long. The header kit comes with wiring and crimp connectors so you can cut/splice/lengthen you factory harness. I would not go this route, I would anti up and pay the 25-30 bucks for the actual extension harnesses. You want the flat 4-pin style.

Also, will it be ok to drive it without the rear O2 for awhile? Until I can get them tuned out.
Ebay has the extensions for pretty cheap, just make sure you get the 4-pin flat style connector. Also, Thunder Racing, Jegs, or Summit have them. You'll will be fine driving the car with the rear 02 sensor codes active. As I mentioned, they do not affect the fuel management calculations done by the PCM.
Congrats on Putting the Headers in!
I would like to put some LTs in my Z28 down the road, But I would deff. need help with that one. lol I'm not all that Mechanically/engine smart...But I really wanna learn! lol.

Plus the friendly tips and advice from people like 2000GTP helps out a lot.
Brent Franker, one of the forum moderators, has a pretty good writeup with some pictures. Also, try doing a "search" as there are other writeups and plenty of posts going over the "ins and outs" of the install. http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/fbody/exhaustday.htm
Yes, he does all the custom vinyl. He did a couple things for me a couple years ago, he does very good work and is spoken highly of on here.
