Pacesetter welding spatter

Ok so I just got in some coated pacesetters the other day, and noticed some spatter by the welds on each of the primary tubes inner portions. It is something that should have been cleaned up before coating, but was not.

I really want to clean it up with some grinding. So my question is.... are they coated on the inside of the tubes, and will grinding with a dremel ruin the rest of the coating if that is the case?

are you saying the spatter melted off? What did you do, pull them back off to see?

Same thing with mine! Pace Setter's quality control department is on par with a chop shop. These headers are cheap. Oh, there also inexpensive.

I really hope you didn't get your headers hot enough to melt that. If it is really bothering you, just knock it off with a small chisel and a hammer.

Mine have spatter all over the place. On top of that, the ceramic coating is rusting off at a rapid rate. You get what you pay for.

Neighbor had to order 3 sets to fit on his F150 before he got one pair that was not noticeably warped at the flange. The first 2 were so noticeable you didn't even have to put a straight edge against it to see it. Now tell me how something that noticable is able to leave the factory?????? I wouldn't use them even if they were the only headers available.

That's to bad. Like you said, how does something like that make it out the door? Mine were pretty decent out of the box. A little clearance problem with the y-pipe on the drivers side, but I had heard of some people running into that problem before hand. I wanted good ground clearance since my car is dropped some. They worked out quite well for me.

The fit and finish of mine were very good - not great, but well worth what I paid. No issues with warped flanges either...I guess there are good batches and bad batches.

I am going to check my flanges tomorrow now, and then knock that **** off the inside of the tubes. All in all they did not look that horrible as far as build. My dad is a welding QC and was laughing at the spatter. He said they get an F on that one. LOL

Are Pacesetters made in China?

mine fit great, had some spatter on the inner primaries also but nothing that bothered me enough to do anything about it... i mean hey there is a reason they are the cheapest ones you can get... dont expect kooks quality headers here.. my coating is lasting well for me DD it, ive had them on since last semester so 6-8months and there are no decent sized rust spots showing through except where i scraped off the coating on the bottom of the headers... and small spots where the pacesetter plate is welded to one of the primaries and it has taken two 1300 mile drives in one day (18 hours of straight driving with some racing mixed in) from ny to florida and back and they took it great

well they are flush on the flanges, that is a good thing. I know these are budget headers, but just trying to clean them up if I can. I just dont want to damage the coating if it is going to bring on the rust.

I thought that mine were of good quality for the price as well. Even my y-pipe fits great. I did have a little piece of the weld rod on the inside of my header but it snapped right off.

And that's why I didn't touch the openings of the tubes, even though they looked like they could use a little work. BUT, if I build a 355 with some HP I'll clean them up.
