Offroad X vs Offroad H vs Tue Duals

My dad's got a '70 Chevelle SS we've been building. We're putting in a "buget" 454 with a mild cam in it. I'm not sure what the headers will be yet, as he is contemplating between longtubes, pacesetter shortys, and manifolds. I believe he's looking at true duals with flowmaster 40's before the axles.

Would it be better to run a X or H pipe in it? The car is a weekend cruiser FWIW.

From what I have read, X pipe produces more power.

That's what I told him to do last night on the phone. He mentioned it'd hurt the sound volume but I have a feeling dual 40's on a BBC will be plenty loud.

x pipes are proven to make more power than an H pipe. It is a small amount tho, mainly due to exhaust scavenging(sp).

I would run anything other than a flowmaster muffler. But thats just me.

My buddy has a 69 Chevelle with a 454 in it. He runs true duals, no X, no H. Sounds mean and it runs low 11's in the 1/4. I used to ask him about running a H or X and he basically said "Why?".
