Normal for a cat. conv. to glow red????

My converter was red hot after a couple 1/4 runs. Is this pretty normal with my mods in sig?

Do you primaries glow too?

To me it sounds like your cats are partially restricted. I'm driven mine pretty hard and have never had them glow.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought if your cat(s) glow red you need to replace them.

So what does this mean? Its a new Dynomax cat. Only has 2000 miles on it.

The engine is a new crate and runs super cool. I can drive it hard and hardly any heat is under the hood.

I dont need it on the car because I got it exempt from emission. Can I just run without it? And if so what do I need to do about the sensor for my TPI F.I. that runs to the cat?

I take it you're running the stock AIR tube to the cat?

Either two things are happening.

1) The cat is plugged.
2) The AIR injection system isn't diverting properly. The AIR system has 3 choices. Runs air to the manifolds under startup, runs air to the cat during warm operation. Runs air out the diverter valve (that little muffler thing in the engine compartment) under WOT. Usually under normal driving it will switch back and forth between manifolds and cats. If it's only putting air to the cat, the cat will overheat due to too much oxygen going to it.

Unfortunately I don't know how to check which way the AIR is going. I think people can log where it's going who have laptops in their cars. But I'm not sure as I've never done that before.

When I used to have no cat, the air pipe going to the cat was just open. Some new off road pipes have an AIR tube on them though.

Your cat should have a warranty on it.
