No Muffler...Cat only

Well my friend and I spent the last 5 hours making a exhaust for my car...I took the Cherry bomb off and I was gonna put a Flowmaster 40 on it tomorrow...So I told my friend that I would just drive it with no muffler for the rest of tonight...Well we made some duals so I didn't have to sport one exhaust tip...We decided on putting the exhaust tips in the middle of the bumper under the license plate....It looks really nice (looks kinda like the Corvette's tips)! So I started it up and OMG this thing sounds sooooo rowdy! I will get some pics tomorrow!!!...Also what kinda of gas mileage drop should I expect if I don't put the muffler on???

Thanks

M

assming you keep your foot out of the loud pedal....gas mileage will not suffer.

actually a free-er flowing exhaust will increase mileage, maybe not enough to notice though.
anything that makes the engine more efficient...will boost mileage.

as for this:

"you may burn out the cat a little faster with no mufflers"

what the FK are you smoking?? what has the muffler got to do with the cat??

assuming there is some pipe behind the cat (so air doesn't get to it easily) why would a low restriction exhaust (basically what removing the muffler is) have any affect on the life of the cat.

go back to honda land

Quite a few people run their cars without the muffler and experience no ill effects other then the noise.

So I haven't gotten any pictures up yet and sorry about that but I will soon...I have decided its way to poppy/backfiring for me....I love how loud it is but it pops way too much...any suggestions that are cheap...how would a flowmaster 40 series sound??? How about with no cat??? My friend is getting a new exhaust and he said I could get his old one for free...any suggestions? I love loud but I dont want a cut out or anything...

Thanks!

Sorry to hear that you don't like it. My buddy has no mufflers on his 2000+ truck and it sounded horrible. It sounded like fireworks going off in pop cans. It would pop and ping like crazy.

I have two 40 series on my car. It doesn't sound bad but if I were to do it all over again I would have put a straight through muffler on.

My Flowmaster was really poppy sounding, but that was before the headers. It's not so bad now after the LT's and ORY. Still pops though. Of course, the previous owner had the cats gutted, but only one of them was actually done, so maybe that had something to do with it.

a $40 bullet muffler can make all the difference in the world.

Where can I get one? Do you gotta link???

What does it sound like?
Should I keep the cat on or take it off?

Thanks!

Try Summit or Jegs. Personally, I would leave the cat in place, but with anything exhaust related, that comes down to a matter of taste.
