No cats, or new system?

ive got a 1996 z28 with slp headers, and a magnaflow exhaust. It just seems way to quiet for me. I was wondering if it would be better to take the converters off and keep the magnaflow, or just go to a SLP loudmouth 2 system. Also is it bad for the engine to take the converters off? i kno that without the o2 sensors a light will come on, but does it actually do damage to the engine? This is my first camaro, so any input will help, thanks

You can get 02Simulators or just have your rear 02's tuned out. No it does not do any damage to the engine, it will reduce back pressure a little and produce more carbon in to the air, that's about it. You can eliminate your cats and if that's still not enough for you get a cut-out and you will be happy with the "selectable" volume of the exhaust for a while.

After saying all that I have a question for you. Does your car have a full Magnaflow Cat-Back system, or is it just a Magnaflow muffler? If it is just a muffler is it just a Magnaflow OEM replacement muffler or a Magnaflow aftermarket muffler?

its a full stainless cat back aftermarket exhaust system. I was thinking about taking off the cat's to save money, but wasnt sure if it would throw the engine off. I had a 90 pickup before this, and when i took the cat off, it improved gas mileage, and sounded a hell of a lot better, but i wasnt sure if i could do it with the camaro. How much do electric cut outs usually cost?

Electric cut-outs are like $150 then you have to buy the actual cut-out and that will run you another $35-$70ish.

It would definitely be a noticeable difference. I couldn't tell you for sure, but it will be very noticeable.

I doubt removing the cats will make a big difference, I think a big part of it is your catback. The Magnaflow is a pretty tame system. Removing the cats will not cause any harm to your engine.

i have a hooker aerochamber and it is very similar to magnaflow. When i took out my cat it was just what i was looking for. Just a little louder, deeper, and whenever i want to be an *** i just open the e cutout.

I would drop you cats and pick up an e cutout. Nothing can beat the sound open headers.

My biggest question is "How is your state on inspections?" If you have some "by-the-book" inspection places, you might not pass without converters.

For me, I removed my cats on my 88 and I like the sound of it. But I dont have to worry about passing inspection.

just a thought.
