need help deciding on exhaust

Just saved enough money to finally get some exhaust. The first thing I'm going for is performance, second is look and sound. Which type of set up would give me the best performance? I really like the sound of the SLP LM II but I was also thinking about true dual set ups.

Brag on your set ups a bit, let me see what you got.

Any advice on the best system for me would be great.

The options are endless in terms of exhaust, there is alot to choose from on the market. Sound is a matter of preference. SLP is a good catback, as is Hooker, Magnaflow, Edelbrock, Borla, and GMMG. The last two though will run you some money though. Or you can opt for a custom true dual setup which will sound great as well. In terms of power, you'll definitely want to look into headers and a y-pipe, but once again, there are alot of options there in terms of style, quality, and price. I would do a search and dig through the old posts, there is alot of good info regarding this topic that may point you in the right direction.

if you want loud, get the loudmouth..... my buddy has it on his 95z28 w/ long tubes and it's louder than my 97z28 when it had longtubes and the universal x pipe kit that all the companies sell that dumps out before the axles with dynomax bullet mufflers on it

As much as I want it loud I don't want to sacrife a true dual set up. Correct me if I'm wrong but SLP doesnt make a true dual, and the loudmouth mufflers alone only work with SLP products.

the slp loudmouth is just a straight pipe with a bullet muffler in the intermediate pipe.

it's really loud

and no it's not a true dual (neither is the jeg's kit), it has a y pipe and goes over the axle, so it has better ground clearance, will not be as loud inside the car, and will be louder outside the car.

knowing what i know now, if i was still in my "i want my car to be loud as hell" phase, I would of went with the lm

if you still want to go the true duals way, i had dynomax bullet mufflers on my x pipe setup.... it was fairly raspy but loud as hell.

DNAHR said part of it in the last part of his post: "if you still want to go the true duals way, i had dynomax bullet mufflers on my x pipe setup.... it was fairly raspy but loud as hell."

I Had the TSP True Dual X Pipe w/ dynoMax Bullet Mufflers, No cats and LT headers dumped at the axle. NICE and LOUD, but too raspy for me.
I was looking for a NICE and DEEP classic muscle car sound.
So, once I found someone to do it, (it took 6 months) I had him fab me a TD H-pipe, put magnaflow high-flow cats, and 10 series flowmaster race mufflers in, over the axle and out the back.

I LOVE it! NICE and Deep. but not loud and obnoxious.
Normal driving: just lets the people around you know your there.
WOT: Everyone for a mile know's there is a Monster coming.

That sounds like a system I would like to build for my car. Its too loud for me now and I have been wondering how to quieten it down and I like your idea. is there anyway you could get me some pics or tell me how you got it over the rear axle without having clearence issues.

as far as sound goes Corsa and Borla are probably the cleanest hands down. However, the Magnaflow is a steal at that price, and sounds great with LT's. You are better off with a TD setup though.

Howdy got any pics? Curious to see whatcha have

Sadly, no, I didn't get pics of it while it was on the lift. But I can describe it to you.

Because I wanted to go over the axle I went with the 2 1/2 in piping. Knowing that LT's caused some exhaust systems to be raspy, I wanted to go with the H pipe and 10 series flows for sound. People say flowmaster sucks for our cars, but they sound so GOOD, and the 10 series are single chamber Race mufflers.
I put the cats on it cause I hate the no cat smell, and being in the military I wanted to stay "kinda" legal... LOL

My exhaust guy is an "old school" muscle car guy that has never really worked our cars.
I explained to him how duals are usually run on f-body's (over the axle on the pass side) but he said he didn't need to do that.
Long story short it's tucked up real nice! My lowest point is the drivers side cat. The piping itself has Awesome clearance.

I LOVE the sound of it. I've yet to hear ANY rasp! There is some interior drone right at
2k RPM but it's gone by 2100 RPM.

Anyone in the Missouri area that wants to hear it or wants to link up with my exhaust guy (He fabbed and installed mine for $260!!!) let me know

borla sounds like crap

bassanni makes a true dual kit for our cars now that goes out to the bumper and over the axle

sounds really nice, but it's pretty pricey

everybody has different opinons. if someone thinks borla sounds like crap. them to him it does lol. I think the Magnaflow sounds like crap. But the price is right. Listen to alot of diff. setups, in person if you can online doesnt give a good idea of what a setup sounds like, and make a choice.

I really like...

The setup that I have, although not everybody loves EXTREMELY loud. I would go with the loud mouth from SLP and just change out the muffler with the resonator if you want it louder, good power gains, sounds good and has versatility to boot, not alot of cat-backs have interchangeable mufflers that are easy. Hope this helps, take care.
