Making an exhaust system

I was thinking about buying a BORLA muffler, and maybe making my own exhaust system. I think it would be cheaper that way instead of paying $750 plus for a borla system. What if I bought a Flowmaster exhaust system but put a BORLA muffler and tips on there? Could do that with some good welding? I was wondering if anyone has done something like this before. Let me know your thoughts.

I purchased a Mufflex 3 1/2" cat-back system with a spintech muffler. Since I am FI, the spintech had alot of flow resistance due to the chambered muffler design (I did not know much then). So, I made my own 3 1/2 pipe with a QTP 3 1/2" cutout (It helped alot). I purchase pipe from Summit and MIG welded it. Also, I had purchased a Random Tech Y with dual cats. I've since modified that also since the cats were blown to pieces. I also had to fix alot of the joints and hangers, so, I think it is worth it to make your own from pieces. It really is not that difficult with good cut off tools and a tape measure (Milwaukee 4" & Sawzall). I'm always modding my exhaust. Now playing with car-chemistry inserts. B. (97SS - 383 - D1 - M6)

Well my exhaust system is stock, but what if I bought a SLP or BORLA muffler, and switched it with my stock one.....What would that do?

realize that a borla is more than just a muffler.

the key things about a borla catback are
- all stainless tubing and muffler
- free flow muffler
- built in cutout to allow total muffler bypass
- overpriced but good looking tips

you are aware that you can get an aluminized I-pipe and over-axle pipe from dynomax through Summit Racing? then just have a shop put on your choice of muffler and tips.

but for the hassle....go 2.5" true duals...you'll thank me

get magnaflow or hooker catback. Both under $350.
I would pick up one of them or build a true dual setup.
