Making Borla plates

What material did you guys make your plates out of? I can buy all the plates for $62 from Borla. Just seeing if the legwork, hassle, is worth the savings.

Related note, on WS6.com, the guy dynoed the highest with the 1.75" plate. 4 more hp than a the open plate. Albeit he had a full bolt on LT1, but still.

Re: Making Borla plates

I would say just buy a sheet of 16-18 gauge stainless from Home Depot or another hardware store and go from there.

Only a 4hp difference without multiple runs showing exact consistent numbers of each isn't a lot to go with IMO...you won't feel a 4hp difference driving around anyway.

No doubt, but he still dynoed each plate. But mostly, I hate the loud gatling gun on cold starts and a plate should lessen it considerably.....I would hope.

Re: Making Borla plates

I had a Borla on my old '95 Z28 and tried all of the plates but I couldn't feel any difference in power but definitely a NOISE difference. The full plate was too quiet for me but the smallest plate was too loud. I ended up drilling 3/4" hole in the solid plate and it was a good compromise in sound without the popping and droning of the bigger plates. I'm seriously considering selling off my Corsa and installing a Borla to quiet my '96 Z28 down some. Anyone in the market for a like new Corsa?
