Loudmouth Exhaust 96-97

hey i have a LM1 on my 97 Z and i was wondering who else has one here on their 96 - 97, because mine basically..fell off like where the conversion kit holds it it slipped out of the hole and was dragging while i was driving.. i just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else or if they've had a better way to secure it...thanks

You might want to clarify "conversion kit" and "slipped out of the hole" As I didn't quite follow you there. If it fell out of the hangars...or at one of the connections:

A. Get SLP Hanger Kit (need it to run SLP LMI & II on LT1 F-body) or modify your stock hangers.

B. Go have your exhaust welded or tighten your band clamps

well the convsersion kit is a little rubber doo hickey that you strap onto a bolted hanger that goes under the car by the exhaust tip that holds the driver's side part of the exhaust up.

I read your post wrong...lol

You need to put a washer or something over the barb from the tailpipe, to block the barb from sliding out of the rubber grommet. It's common sense man. Just put a few washers over it and have them welded to the barb, or bend the barb so that it can't slide out...you could put a jack under the barb and jack it up till it bends. etc.

I thought you were asking something that was a little more difficult than that. lol

not really, since the part that connects to the hanger (the part actually connected to the exhaust pipe) isnt a screw, i couldnt get a bolt to stay on, i tried replacing the rubber hanger thing with another, smaller one, but it seems rubber tends to expand in the heat -_- and for some reason tehres a lot of heat coming off my exhaust system...

im thinking of finding a torch and like melting it to move the pipe down so it locks in place... but idk

is it safe to use a flame near the gas tank?

Aslong as you don't have any leaks back there...and stay away from the fuel lines. I get kinda jittery welding near that area. You could also get a thick piece of rubber and put it over the tailpipe barb and put a hose clamp over it. You basically just need to modify it so that it cannot back out of the rubber grommet. Maybe you should snap a pic too, just incase I'm not understanding what you're getting at.

I'd just take it to an exhaust shop and have them heat it up and bend it, Because I don't recommend you doing anything back there without some fire blankets...
