Jeg's vs Summit cutout

I thought I'd just throw this up here real fast. I bought a Jeg's brand cutout for my car and my buddy bought a pair of Summit cutouts. Both are manual for now, we'll be buying electric ones later. I just wanted to comment that if you're going to choose between these go with the Jeg's because it is a much better quality cutout. The Jeg's is painted black and clean, while the Summit cutout is bare and dirty as hell even before you put it on. The big difference in them other than looks is that the bolts to hold the cap on are welded on the Jeg's cutout, so all you have to put on is the cap and wingnuts, but the bolts are free in the Summit cutout, so you might have to use a ratchet or wrench to put the wingnuts on the cutout. They're basically the same price too, maybe 2 dollars between them.

Just thought I'd throw this up here incase someone searches for it or whatever.

The welded bolts is a nice feature. As far as the paint, it's going to get messed up if your welding the cutout in place. My local exhaust shop had all the parts to build and install my cutout, no need to buy one to bring to him. He hit it with paint after welding it in place.

I agree, the welded bolts are the way to go, especially on the fly at the track.

My summit cutout has welded bolts and it is black. I did notice that they no longer have the same one I have. Must have changed it up a bit.

I have a question. Those are the cutouts with the pull wire correct? Do you close them with the same wire you open them with?

No, the cap is held on with three wingnuts. You just unscrew the wingnuts and take the cap off to open the cutout.

The pull-wire cutouts are different.

I've got the cheap summit cutout, $25 I think it was, and I must say I'm disappointed. I have an electric cutout as well, but it's on it's way back to QTP for repair right now (motor died on me) so I've been manually closing it off for a while. I do wish that the bolts were welded in. What should take 5 minutes takes 15 sometimes when you can't get the bolts to stay in, nor can you tighten the wingnuts too much without a wrench or ratchet. If you're not going to go electric, I'd say go with the Jeg's cutout.

How do the pull wire cut outs work? I saw one in Jegs for like 45 bucks...

I've never seen one in person, but I'm guessing there is some type of return spring to get the cutout to close when you are done, with some type of lock in the cockpit to keep it open.

Does anyone think they're worth the extra 20 bucks in order to not have to screw/unscrew the cutout?
