You wouldn't need very thick metal for templates really. A sheet of 20 or 22 gauge metal from Home Depot would be thin enough to cut with shears. You could shape it easily enough and sandwich it between the plate and the pipe to test. Then simply take it to a metal working shop and have them transfer the pattern you decide on to a thicker piece of metal.

Yeah, electric cutouts are fun when you pull up next to some idiot with a loud sound system.

Re: Its too loud!

Thanks Chris

I may end up doing this. I don't want to start cutting my plate, but I would like to know what it sounds like somewhere in between where it was and whee it is now.

But I am almost 100% sure I will do cutouts over the winter. Do you guys think ill need another tune after that for the little bit of difference?

on my 3" dual tips all I'm running is the cat, no muffler at all, she will rattle ya a bit, but cruzing it sounds great. Up where I live they don't care how loud you are..

They don't care how loud you are here either. It was just too loud for me.

After driving the car a bit more, I have come to the decision that the block off plate is perfect sounding. I will install the cutouts later so I can have the best of both worlds of quiet good sounding exhaust, and performance on demand

Re: Its too loud!

DMH Performance and QTP both have a electric cut-out that you can bolt in, in place of the block-off plates. Their both about $180 each.

Re: Its too loud!

Well, If I'm gonna do it, I would want to install them just after the headers, not all the way back by the block off plate.

Thanks for the info!

Re: Its too loud!

I figured the more options the better.
Just so you know, you'll want you cut-outs at least 30"(with 3"dia. pipe) from you O2 sensors. Otherwise when you have you cut-outs open the O2 sensors could read a lean condition.
