Im putting a SLP Dual/Dual Muffler on my v6
Just now got back from the muffler shop after having this done to my 2002 v6 vert!
I like the sound, although if you're looking to wake the neighbors or shake small animals out of the trees, this won't do it. What it will do is add a nice mellow rumble at idle and up through 2nd, but it's whisper-quiet like the factory system above 40 mph. Best of all, there's no raspy quality to it at all. No one's going to mistake the sound for an LS1, of course, but it's going to sound a little more hairy-chested than the stock system.
My shop of choice does great work, but they had a hella time getting this fitted to my V6. I started with a SLP Dual/Dual catback system that was like a 3,000 mile take-off from a 2001 Camaro SS. Among other things they had to do, they actually had to sever the drivers side tailpipe and remove an inch and a half so that it ended up with the right appearance. Overall, it took them a little over two hours.
Still, it sounds great (to my tastes anyway), and of course looks great after the Mothers Powercone treatment to the tips, and I would do it again. However, if you're looking to do this in your driveway, just be prepared for this to take a lot longer than you ever anticipated. The shop had the advantage of having the car on a hoist and an inventory of adapters to choose from and the sawzall and the welding equipment. For the $100 they charged me, it's not worth it for me to take on that sort of hassle, and I recommend professional installation for anyone else as well.
Know the challenges up front, or find a reliable shop that does custom work, and enjoy the results!
