horsepower load

when you add horsepower via headers, or other upgraded exhaust systems...does it put more or less load on an engine?

I have no idea, because 1/2 of me says more load...more hp = more load; but the other 1/2 says no...it's a less restrictive outlet...so it takes a load off the motor..

Can somebody set me straight?

Thanks a ton!

i guess it depends on what you consider "load"...and what parts that "load" is on.

free flowing exhaust makes the engine run more efficient. it doen't have to push the exhaust out with as much force, so the engine is working less.

however, more hp means more force is applied to the moving parts like pistons, rods and crank. not to mention more frictional forces applied to things like bearings.
