Hooker Shorties vs PS LTs

Alright. I know everyone swears by Pacesetter LTs and everyone has em.

But I have a technical question.

As far as the difference in Torque/HP of the two.

Will I see more low end torque coming in the curve with the LT's verses the Hooker Mid Lengths?? Or vice versa??

I'd really like to know what the technical difference is between the two in relation to torque and HP.

Thanks all!!,
Ivan

Sidenote.....I have the Hooker SuperComp Mids with ypipe sitting here that a friend gave me. About a year old. Free...?? Change things???

The whole idea of "long tubes" is the longer primaries, which improve low end torque, compared to shorter primaries. You get more grunt on the bottom end. Peak torque and the point at which it occurs generally will not change - that's determined mainly by primary diameter. High RPM torque may actually be reduced with longer primaries.

That's the "theory".... but whether it works is going to be more a matter of the specific engine setup, the rest of the exhaust setup, whether you are comparing the same primary diameters, whether an effort was made to make the primaries equal length, etc.

Simplified explanation:

Thank you Fred.

The Mid/Shorties/Freebie will be installed then.

I can't see the justification for the extra money I'll spend and I'm sure that these have got to be better than the stock crap I've got on there now.

Excellent reply.

Thanks,
Ivan

But remember the issue of primary diameter. I did 1-5/8" shorties and they really hurt the top end. 1-3/4" primaries seem to be a better choice.

and don't forget the Hooker shorties (mid) have that ball and cone type flange at the collector that's way smaller in diameter

and plug access sucks so you have to drop the y-pipe for a lot more things

go long tubes

Most people don't look at shorties instead of LTs due to power.

Ground clearance, budget, emissions, etc. are the main reasons people go with shorties.
