Header Install Done-Sounds Great

Header install is all done and sounds great with open headers. Can't bring myself to put rest of exhaust on the car yet. Hopefully will not get pulled over.

Yep, gotta love the NASCAR sound of open headers. I left my piping off for a short while, but got the rest of the exhaust hung up pretty quickly. I didn't want to test the patience of my neighbors.

Hee, hee!! I can't wait to do the same thing myself!!!! They should be arriving within the next week or two, and I don't think they'll sit around very long before being installed!!!!

What brand did ya go with anyway?? And how (hard?) was the install?

I was really happy when I started my Z/28 up with open headers. It sounded like a rocket ready to go. however, I decided not to make more then one pass on the street that way. I banged through the gears down the highway right next to my garage and within the 5 minutes that I parked the car I had multiple officers in the area. I can't say for sure they were lokking for me but, they were not any where in sight before i decided to wake up the neighborhood.

Congrats on the headers it feels so good to have them in when you are finally done,

I decided to go with the flow-tech headers. For the money they seem pretty good. Getting all the factory stuff off was the biggest pain in the butt but after that every thing went pretty well. Do recommend having a second person there to help with installing the new headers. Many a time I was wishing I had a third and forth hand. Only thing I would recommend is don't use bolts provided. To short. First one I tried to torgue and the damn threads ripped out of the head. Reused factory bolts and didn't have any problems. Took two days in the driveway to do job start to finish. Oh, my neighbors all hate me now.

from the sound of it, i can't wait til i get to start mine up tomorrow called a night after starting the install today and i'll finish up tomorrow. and this goes out to everyone who has installed headers on an fbody...i applaud you...now i see why the shop here would have charged me $400 for the install. but it feels great when you do it yourself for free

You are 100% right about header install. One hugh pain in the *** but the most rewarding thing to do. Even better when you realize how much money you saved. Good luck with finishing the header install.

Why the heck not???

The only possible reason I can come up with is that by opening the exhaust right up, allowing the MAX airflow through the engine as possible, it may flow "too much" air if the fuel system can't keep up, thus, lean out the engine. That's the only thing I see being a problem.

Think about it though ... lots of race cars run open headers / straight pipes.

Pure fiction! Nothing wrong with using headers.
