Header Install

How much should I figure after I've got the headers and y pipe?
What all do I need? I'm doing it myself with a friend who put shorty's on my previous camaro (before I bought it off him)

Hooker Supercomp LTs w/ ORY

o2 Extensions - $40
Header Gaskets - $40
Header Bolts - $40
LT4 Knock Module - $35

What else do I need?

Remove the LT4 knock module off the list and add a tune. You will also need new plug wires and an over the valve cover kit, might as well put new plugs in too. Are you removing the EGR or AIR?

Just finished putting in LTs you will need all the sockets sizes not the socket but the actual wrench part you will need the 1/4 inch drive 3/8 and 1/2. I ended up using the all to get into certain places. you will need a couple extentions but nothing crazy, you will also probably use some wrenches aslso for places where sockets wont fit. shouldnt be to hard since you dont have to worry about the stock manifolds and rusted y pipe bolts.

Drivers side is easy to drop in from the topjust undo the steering linkange, and valve cover, and maybe remove plugs (I took out mine).

Pass. side is a B**** seriously I got mine in throuhg the top somehow I don't even know but I did took forever, and make sure you hook the AIR tube to the back of the header first before you bolt it in, becuase you will have problems if you don't trying to make it reach(thats if you have emissions headers).

Otherwise you are going to have jack the car up HELLA HIGH to get the pass. side in the bottom I had mine up so high and coulnt get it in (was afraid to go any higher lol). Good luck

There's a from St. Louis who comes down to KC once a month and does tunning. I might have him tune to densensitive the computer's knock pickup for cheap but if I do a dyno tune it won't be till next summer. The headers will be going on late winter / early spring. They are Hooker SuperComp / Race Headers so no EGR or AIR.

Debating doing plugs and wires, we'll see how my checkbook looks.

You may also have to factor in a new pair of 02 sensors. For some reason, the coating on a fresh set of headers is pretty hard on the 02s and they may fail as a result. You'll definitely need a tune, not only for the AIR and EGR, but also the rear 02 sensors as well since they will not be used. A OTVC wire setup would be nice, but the loom kit will run you around 50 bucks and the wires will run around another 80-90 bucks. If that is in your budget, then great. If not, then the stock setup will do but make sure you keep the plug wires secured away from the header primaries with cable ties.

You should get poly motor mounts to keep things from hitting. You will also need to block off the intake with some plates that you can get from here. You will also need some vaccume caps to plug the hole on your intake (5/8") and the intake manifold(1/8" i think), you can get those at a auto parts store.

I'm referring to the rear 02 sensors, the ones located after the catalytic converters that monitor the catalyst efficiency. You will not be using those because of the off-road y-pipe which has no cats and no bungs to even mount the rear 02 sensors.

The previous owner of my red car did the headers on it. Were doing it in his garage. It won't take but a weekend.

Not happening anytime soon. Gotta wait untill closer to tuning season and get my pocket book back up.

ive said it before and im gonna say it again. unmount the engine. its one freakin bolt per side. Things go so much easier when you do it, i couldnt believe how easy it was to do. They will slide right in once the engine is tipped to one side.

also get breslin lockers. you wont regret it.

I'll mention it to Brett who's helping me with the install. He's going to guide me and help me since he's done headers on a LT1 before. We should get it knocked out in a weekend easy.

I'm getting ready to do the same install. Will it matter if the O2 sensor is in the y-pipe? I need to get O2 sims for the rear, where do is the best place for them? what bolts do you guys suggest? I have the SLP 2OTL that came on the car, will it mate up to the hooker y-pipe? I'm thinking on doing the wires and plugs while I'm in there. I'm not looking forward to this install, but it needs to be done. Will I notice any different in the sound? And last, what kind of tuning will I need to have done?

Why would u put 02 sensors in the y-pipe? I would get em from Summit, but imo go with a tune, its worth it. I used stage 8 locking header bolts and have had no problems. It will mate up to your y-pipe, just make sure when you cut your factory y off u allow yourself plenty of extra pipe. Its easier to cut more off than add back on. I would do NGK tr55's and an OTVC wire kit. I did notice a difference in sound. No tuning will need to be done, unless you want to get your rear o2's tuned out, which i would recommend over the 02 sims, esp if you plan on modding the car more in the future, it will cost more to buy the sims now, and then get a tune later and have em tuned out.
