Good shorties?

My 93 z28 sits fairly low and I want to do headers next. (Car just did 13.45 @ 103.9 with just K&N Intake, deleted cat, flowmaster muffler, 245 all season Kumhos) Needs headers and a cutout now

Since it's low, I know shorties would be best, I don't want to deal with having to move all the stuff around that mids would need, and longs will be way too low for me.

So what are some good shorties for a 93?

I heard SLP makes some good ones. Do a search, there's a lot of threads about this.

What would you have to move around doing a mid length header install that you wouldnt have to move doing a shorty install.

I don't know, I'm a complete newb when it comes to that, but from what I was reading throughout other threads, it seemed like mids were more work than shorties. I need to have stuff as tucked as possible. I go over many speed bumps every day.

My LTs tuck up nicely, and I have never had a problem with ground clearance.

Well, my car was low low low. I think it was dropped about 1.75-2". I ran BBK Shorties for about 2 years, and they worked well. They were coated, looked nice, and did their job. Since I put my big motor in there now, I bought a set of Kooks. WELL worth it if your lowered, and want long tubes, however, the price is up there. They cleared just as everything else does with a lowered car. But, if you dont have the thousand to drop, I am selling my shorties in the the parts section as well. But if you want long tubes, and have the money, KOOKS!

I have SLP shorts. They are not easy to install, but, clear everything OK. I don't think they are made anymore. I had mine Jet-Hot coated and they have lasted 10 years (97ss Camaro). Also, I did a Random Y with bullet cats and a 3 1/2" single muflex cat. I also installed a 3 1/2" Qtp cut-out since I had alot of flow restriction behind a 383 D1. I have made alot of mods to my exhaust system since the left cat was blown out. It flows well now. I have some pics on photobucket.com (search under ID... mzgp5x). Hope this helps. B.

I've owned both BBK's and Edelbrock. I only installed the Edelbrock so I can't speak for which is easier to install. Also both cars were significantly different ('97 SS 6spd with 2otl vs '94 Z28 auto w/ flowmaster 40 and no cats) so I can't speak for which was better. Never had a problem with longitivity though the BBK's did get purplish but I believe the previous owner had used them on a 383 motor (stock LT1 heads and cam, ~310 rwhp)

Mac mids

IMHO by the time you fiqure how tough the install is and small gains from shorties i don,t think it is worth it.My Mac,s went in great, the plug access is much improved, rwhp was up by 28,ground clearance is great and no my car isn,t lowered. My buddy w a/96Z28 is lowered and he has same headers as me.Btw how do you know that your car is even lowered,do some checking b/f jumping to conclusions.Hope this helps.

I wouldn't even bother with shorties. Atleast go mid-length. I had Edelbrock shorties on my car, when I bought it, and they sucked. Shorties won't gain you much over stock manifolds, and plug access is horrible. Go with a nice set of mids, or look into LT's. Ground clearance really isn't that bad with LT's at all. I've never had an issue with it, and there's a lot of uneven surfaces around where I live, that would be easy for stuff to scrape on.

A good option for lowered cars are the RKSport mids. They are a copy of the AS&M 1 3/4" primaries and ceramic coated.

shorties are really not worth it, esp for plug access and misc things, like having to drop the y-pipe to change the starter. i had to drop the y pipe to change the plugs! LT1 hooker supercomp shorties. i'm getting long tubes soon. if you're too low that hurts your drag times too. if you don't want stock or adj ride height kit, get the strano springs

For everyone saying shorties are not worth it need to take a look at a stock LT1 manifold and a shorty header. There ARE gains to be had the stock LT1 manifold flows like a brick the shorties will retain smog legality and offer a good hp increase.
