Exhaust size and HP?

Right now I'm running Pacesetter LT headers and y-pipe with no cat into a 3'' single pipe and muffler (Edelbrock). The system has a cut-out under the rear passenger seat for track use. I'm concerned that next year if I run a 100 shot added to the 370rwhp I have now, that my exhaust system will become a restriction.
I'm not looking for true duals or anything loud. I'm toying with the idea of having a custom y-pipe made that has a better y than what the pacesetter has and then a 3 1/2'' pipe running back to a new 3 1/2 '' cut-out. From there I don't really care if it goes back back down to a 3'' the rest of the way for street use. Do guys feel this will be worth the effort and expense? Any other ways to go about this? Thanks

So nobody has any experience with a custom y-pipe? I did read the sticky at the top, good info.

I think that long tubes and a full 3" exhaust can handle the ~420-430 rwhp you're planning.

I'm not familiar with the design of the Edelbrock muffler, but if it's not a straight-through design (like Dynomax, Corsa, Borla), I'd ditch it for one of those.

I'm thinking that with 370 rwhp and another 100 rwhp works out to more like 470 rwhp. I do believe that is somewhere around 550 flywheel. You don't think a custom y with a nice merge, going into a 3 1/2 pipe and cut-out would help?

That's not the way nitrous works. First of all, that's 100 crank hp, not 100 rwhp. So you're adding maybe 80-85 rwhp. But the other thing is that nitrous adds the most power in the lower RPMs, and tapers off as RPMs increase. Since your car makes the most power somewhere near redline, you can't add your power peak to the peak additional power you'll get from the nitrous. The 420-430 figure is just a guess, but there is no way you'll hit 470 with your current setup plus a 100 shot.

I do think that a better merge on your Y pipe will help. Improved breathing will always help. I just don't think that your Pacesetter Y is that bad.

Now, if you're really targeting 470rwhp (and you'll need more nitrous or other additional mods to get there), then yeah, you might be approaching the point where the Y pipe is starting to be a limiting factor.

I have not seen any nitrous systems yet that didnt actually add the HP they added to the Rear wheels. seen 2 lt1's, 1 ls1 and 1 chevy silverado, each put the HP to the wheels that was advertised as such and such shot "

Thank you. The 100 shot would be at the rear wheels. Thanks for the help though any ways JakeRobb.

The only explanation I can come up with for that is that those nitrous systems were underrated as sold in order to avoid the disappointment that would come from the situation I described.

FWIW, I learned what I explained above from the experts in the N2O section on this board, and have no personal experience in the matter.

I would say 100 hp at the wheels for $500 is hella good deal ...

I have to much money invested to try that. Besides I don't have that kind of luck. I'll just purchase all the safety features and have it dyno tuned to be safe.
