Exhaust Cutout question.

Im not sure if this has been answered before but i was wondering about the pros and cons of having a cutout. I have a stock 3.4 camaro only thing on it is an aftermarket cat converter. I was thinking of getting a new muffle but may hold off because im told adding a cutout would be just as good or better on HP and sound. I was wondering if the cutout would be too loud where i would be getting tickets? Or is it noisy in a bad way or a good way? Can anyone give me any insight on the pros and cons of a cutout if any? I figure a cutout would be cheaper and more effective then a new muffler. Thanks if anyone can give me some answers on this i would appreciate it greatly!

well... seeming as its a 3.4 i dont know how loud its gonna get... but i doubt its gonna be loud enough to hamr anyone. i have true duals and its way too loud, with stock headers and NO Cutouts. if you put it before the cat then it will be alot louder than normal. and if it is too loud for dd, then the can just put the cap back on... or if you go electric, close the screen. it would definitely give you a better hp gain and sound gain, and for the money, you cant really complain cuz then you can be quiet when you want, and if you go some where and turns heads, it takes like 2.57 minutes to open the cap and be a bit louder. just my .02. hope it helps. and i go

+1 for getting a cutout compared to a muffler.

anyone know if before the cat or after the cat is better for mounting it? I had my cat off yesterday and smoke was coming out and i imagine the same thing would happen if i put the cutout before the cat. Im sure the hp gains would be a bit better before the cat but would it smoke less if mounted after the cat?

My cutout is mounted just under the passenger rear seat, right before the exhaust goes over the rear axle. Not much of a difference in loudness for me since I run the open plate in my Borla, however it does make it sound noticeably lower in tone. Dunno how it will sound on the 3.4 but I say go for it. It's a cheap mod that can easily be capped it needed be.

the cat is what cleans the exhaust. so any exhaust prior to the cat is going to be like that. but yes, the hp gains will be a lil bit better and sound will also be a bit louder due to less restriction. putting it after the cat will result in cleaner air, and a slightly lower hp and sound gain when the cap is off. so seeming as tho its a 3.4 i think your best bet is to just toss it after the cat. but its up to you. if you want the few extra sound and hp then go ahead and put it in front.
