Cool Exhaust

I have just a flowmaster catback currently. This spring I am planning to get midlength headers. I love the borla sound but cant bring myself to pay that much money for one. I was wondering if anyone has just bought the same muffler and put it where the cat would be and then ran the piping like the rest of the stock I pipe and then once over the axle split it and ran a normal diameter pipe to each tip. Will it sound the same as the normal borla catback?????? Also, if I got longtubes, would the borla xr1 bullet sound good enough without too much rasp. I did some searching but didnt really find any good answers? Thanks.

when you talk about the sound of the borla...do you mean how it sounds with the cutout plate fully closed??

if i'm not mistaken, the muffler used on the standard borla setup is the XR1. what makes it so loud is the adjustable bypass plates.

longtubes with just the borla XR1 behind the ypipe will probably be a little raspy. but not bad.

save some money and look into the magnaflow 4x9 mufflers...great sound and price.

The sound when the least restrictive plate is on. Im just sayin i dont want to pay the money for the system, so i was just wondering if i could just buy the muffler thats normally in the system and put it where my stock catalytic converter is, since mines a 95 and only has one cat. Im just tryin to find a cheap solution to make mine louder and sound meaner without spending too much money.

If you want it louder and want to keep it cheap, a 30 dollar cutout may be to your liking. Otherwise, people do just swap mufflers.

The Borla muffler on the catback is a straight through design like a Magnaflow. It only muffles with a restrictor since the left (drivers side) pipe is the only one that goes through it. The right (passenger side) is bcasicly a cut out if you leave out the plate.

SS88, you like to noisy, raspy open exhaust sound. Get a cutout.

"The sound when the least restrictive plate is on"

so basically you like the sound of the borla exhaust system...when the entire borla muffler is bypassed...gotcha

keep the flowmaster....$30 on a cutout and maybe $50 to install it (varies). stick it under the rear passenger seat, there is an area that accepts it perfectly.

quiet when you want it...LOUD when you don't
